Loved the whole loft-building experience back before

you essentially had to get a permit! I still have a bag in my toolbox from Ol' Norm's with some extra bolts and nuts! Those were good times. I had a couple of great lofts there. Very sturdy. Some of the other ones on my hall, not so much!

I was fortunate to receive a metal framed loft with curtains from my first roommate who was a senior who moved off campus after two weeks. He left me some furniture and a full size rug as well. It was great. Gave a lot of extra room.

I passed it on when I left Johnstone too. I’m sure many guys got to use it.

Those set ups in Johnstone were CRAZY!! Saw one room where they built a new floor 3 feet High with steps and the beds were under the floor! Claustrophobia would have gotten me!!

Great set ups on F-4 in ‘79. Baum and Benoit built a full service bar. Others were amazing construction feats that would probably still be standing today had the tin and concrete maze not come down.

E-3 in 77 Freshman year had the typical raised bed .....just enough room to roll over without rubbing that asbestos looking insulation off the ceiling!! Still wonder what damage that stuff did to our lungs!! Great times

My dad and I fabbed an angle iron loft setup for both beds so that the old bed frames were not used. The two beds were end to end with no support needed in the center. We had a full size sofa bed under the loft. I took measurements when I went up for orientation.

Quite a contrast from the modern day parents worrying on facebook if the any of the adjustable bed heights will actually be correct for the bedskirt they bought months ago.

That's my roommate Roger Knox (Sumter) pulling the lumber up for our loft.
We bolted a frame to the walls (including the closet frame), instead of using vertical supports and then paneled the 3 walls to hide how it was done. There was a ladder between the two beds that swung down to allow ingress/egress.
We had a hand me down thermostat attached to the heating/cooling unit so that it kept the room at the same temperature versus constantly manipulating the fan.
Along with that we had the usual couch and other comforts of home including a really loud stereo.
Good times.

Remember the Nair commercial??...."Who wears short shorts, we wear short shorts, you wear short shorts, Nair for short shorts"...
