These types of stories are beget by idle minds grasping

Mar 20, 2014, 5:23 AM

for verbiage to fill space.

Resulting are inanely-contrived, humorous pieces that say a whole lot of nothing...and mean even less!

You a philosopher or something hartins? That just made me tear up a bit ;)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think they mean Positively influential just

Mar 20, 2014, 5:25 AM

influential overall.. I mean in the descriptions they saw Aaron Hernandez helps make Florida influential...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Come on. They're including negative influences also.

Mar 20, 2014, 5:56 AM

See Aaron Hernandez at UF.

Did you read the methodology?

Mar 20, 2014, 7:24 AM

All they are doing is measuring how big the Wikipedia pages are of the people who are listed as alumni.

You can help Clemson out by going to a bunch of Clemson players' Wikipedia pages and making them really long.

Given the methodology, it's just a silly exercise, and I can't see why anyone would get upset about it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Are you really upset about this?

Mar 20, 2014, 7:47 AM

Number one, they're using Wikipedia as their source. That automatically kills their credibility. Number two, it's a completely unscientific survey. Number three, who cares?

SCar graduates more people in general than Clemson, which alone is bound to give them more nationally prominent people. They also produce more politicians on the state and national level. (Of our 9 Congressional Representatives, 4 of them earned some sort of degree from SCar; only one earned a degree from Clemson.)

I don't really think it's that big a deal.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I can't find what you are referring to.

Mar 20, 2014, 7:58 AM

I typed in USC and Carolina and found no reference to the Gamecocks.

It's true. Have you been to a Wal-Mart lately?***

Adolf Hitler was TIME's "Man of the Year" in 1938 ... that's

Mar 20, 2014, 9:02 AM

a fact. And Joseph Stalin was selected in 1939.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Person_of_the_Year

Just show's what sort of thinking goes into the process of deciding who/what is "influential" at TIME ...

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not sure people read the article.

Mar 20, 2014, 9:07 AM

There was no "thinking". It's a silly measurement based on Wikipedia.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wow Stalin won it twice

Stephen is a sad case of a young man being failed by an 'institution of higher learning.' If he's turning USuCk and SOS's failure into something positive it's a credit to him and his family.

I wish the boy the best.

Wow - I didn't realize TIME mag was still in existence as I haven't read that mag in 30-40 years. I guess I would have missed all of this important info about the stupid chickens.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I stopped reading after this:

Mar 20, 2014, 1:44 PM

The University of Florida is 2.76 times more influential than Johns Hopkins. (It got a big assist from sports-star alumni like Tim Tebow and Aaron Hernandez.)

Yeah, right.
