Sunday Shorts

Apr 28, 2020, 10:45 AM

Good morning P&R

Sunday Shorts

Genesis 3:21
“…Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.”

Have you ever received a gift that you didn’t appreciate? Let’s be honest; there have been times for us all when we were “underwhelmed” by a gift we received. As we grow older, though, we learn to appreciate the hard work and the effort, and the cost in giving a gift. We grow to understand that gifts are given to us by those who love us. We also grow to understand that gifts are not always given to meet expectations, but to meet needs. Even if the gift is simply socks, shirts, or underwear they are gifts given with love. And at a cost.

Adam and Eve received such a gift themselves. God took away those useless fig leaves they thought would suffice in covering their nakedness and gave them real clothing. Do you think they were underwhelmed by this gift? That they didn’t appreciate the cost of this gift? Or that they didn’t remember the cost of the gift every day they put those lamb skins on?

Today, there is another lamb that has been given as a gift for mankind. That lamb is Jesus. Like Adam and Eve we all stand naked before God in sin. Oh, we may think we are properly dressed for various reasons; we never hurt anyone, or stole from anyone, or we have been the nicest person anyone has ever met. Fig Leaves! And the gift of God which removes those fig leaves is His overwhelming love extended to us through His Son, Jesus Christ.

This gift that I speak of is cultivated in love, is a labor of love, and meets a need in our lives – it covers us in love. It is grace and mercy – the forgiveness of sin and life renewed in Jesus for every heart that can believe and confess Jesus is Lord.

I encourage you today, open your eyes and see the great love in this gift to you. Open your hearts to appreciate and receive this great love for you. Be endlessly wrapped in God’s love through His Son Jesus. Let God clothe you and experience how wonderful His love truly is!

God Bless You Today

1) Not Sunday but still a day to celebrate God's love
2) Not long enough to be a sermon but still it is
3) Not formal, but relaxed casual dress (shorts) ...and flip flops if you prefer

As for the tunic: https://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/Mens-Clothing/Lambskin,/material,/26/dept.html

DIL put that on with one of those face paint phone apps. I will probably go back to the USN tag in the near future though.
