Sumner-Gardner

Jul 3, 2013, 9:46 AM

Anyone know the story on this kid? H was playing D on Watson's 7-7 team last night and had forgotten about him.

I remember reading that he rode all night on a bus to get to CU and always wanted to play here--was shocked when he jumped ship to A&M.

Did we stop recruiting him? Seems like a solid DB.

I wasn't too very shocked when he de-committed.

I was more shocked when a kid from Texas stated that he always wanted to play for Clemson and rode a bus to get here for camp.

Weren't we his very first offer?

Once he got an offer from in-state power TAMU (newly minted member of the SEC) he probably re-assessed his childhood dreams.

Aren't we talking about the same guy?***

Yes ... you said you were shocked when he de-committed. I said I wasn't shocked.

I think he was very young and we were his first offer before he was well-known. Then he started getting noticed and got a big offer from an in-state power that also happens to have the Heisman winner and the SEC connection.

And as others have mentioned, his position coach left Clemson.

To me it's not that hard to see why he bailed on us.

Oh, nevermind--misread your post.***

No we didn't stop recruiting him. He was committed to us then recommitted. Shortly after, he committed to a & m. He seemed to really love Clemson, but for some reason started taking visits.

He bounced when coach cheese left.

Coach Cheese leaving plus A&M being close to home

He wants his family to be able to attend games. Can't blame him for that.

Which is why we shouldn't spend any time recruiting those

areas of the country or get our hopes up that Coach Morris and Coach Venables will start bringing in recruits from there.
