Spurrier's comment on Clowney
Dec 26, 2013, 9:55 PM
|
|
South Carolina's Steve Spurrier was asked about Clowney's latest ticket after the team landed in Orlando, and the coach did not sound too concerned. "He needs to go to driving school doesn't he? Somebody told me he got another speeding ticket today," Spurrier said. "At least he'll have enough money to pay for it a week or so from now. He needs to go to driving school. Hopefully they'll send him there after the bowl game."

Spurrier's attitude about disciplinary stuff like this is
Dec 26, 2013, 10:19 PM

just a reflection of their fans' attitude: long as the team is winning and the players don't kill anybody, everything is OK. There's little question usuck has gotten better at keeping a lot of stuff out of the paper. Their fans, coaches, and administrators have put enormous pressure on the local media to report only positive news and to report inescapable bad news as positive as possible.
Until Clowney wraps his car around a bridge abutment doing 90, chickenfans won't make a critical comment. And when it does happen, the bridge design firm will be criticized and sued.

you can always tell when one of these posts hits the mark for chickenfans. Their response is never directed towards the issue itself....its always: "yeah, well, we're not the only ones....your team does it too....its just college kids being college kids. ad infinitum, ad infinitum"
And incidentally, IMO, speeding is doing 70 in a 55mph zone....doing 100+mph in a 70mph zone is careless and reckless and dangerous to every family on the highways during the holidays. In some states, going that fast is an automatic arrest and a very distinct possibility of a couple of weekends in jail.

Sammy Watkins got busted for smoking weed and hasn't done anything since.
Meanwhile in the short time Spurrier has been at USuC over 50 players have been involved in everything from speeding tickets to robbery to sexual assault and felony drug charges.

Really man? At some point, we've all gone well over the speed limit. I'm no fan of Clowney, but this isn't a serious crime. Making a connection of getting two speeding tickets to killing a child is a mighty big stretch.

One of our players was arrested in Georgia for possession of marijuanna and it did not even make news. Call me Coot if you want, but the Clown speeding really does not bother me.

of MJ seems much less severe than operating a one ton missile at high speed. You're not directly endangering every single life you pass on the road with MJ in your pocket like you are with a speeding vehicle. I think drinking should be banned before MJ but that's a topic for another thread...
Needless to say, he was fined and hopefully he learned his lesson.

1. Thank you for truly making this is a USC board. Want to get rid of us coots? Stop opening threads about us.
2. Thank God our coach has a sense of humor. Why you think his words are so careless is just straight bias. Which leads me to...
3. What do you want Spurrier to do, Suspend Clowney for his last college football game because of a speeding ticket? Hahahahahaha really? A speeding ticket, let that soak on....3....2....1....yes, lets suspend a top 5 draft back with a chance for hia stock to go up on his last game for a....wait for it....speeding ticket.
Let me save the next poater the trouble..."tell em coot!"

Regardless, I won't throw stones at Clowney, because I received enough speeding tickets at his age to break my wallet.
Unfortunately, I still have a tendency to put the hammer down on the roads, which is stupid, so I hope he will learn to control his driving habits now. I've lost too many friends over the years in automobile accidents not to know that speeding is usually the culprit.

Yes he wasn't fired for spreading information about an open case in public and bragging to his friends about how he got Dabo. That def wasn't why he was fired. We're you born this stupid or did you have to work at it?

One thing Clowney showed with this ticket
Dec 27, 2013, 9:39 AM
|
|
is that he really does have a learning disability!! And, I always thought the coots had made that up.
2 tickets in a month for 25+ mph over the speed limit is foolish and dangerous to say the least.
His punishment for the 2nd one should be much worse than his fine for the first one.
He ain't gonna get benched for this, but he ought to have is driving license suspended for awhile.

more than anyone, but it is a little bit ridiculous to be up in arms about a speeding ticket. So what, he sped and he got a ticket twice, that happens to a lot of people. Not undermining the safety issues involved, but nowadays anytime you are behind the wheel you are in danger. Not that big of a deal.
