This should make that Auburn defensive back who couldn't catch him when he chased him all the way down the sideline on the long touchdown run feel a little better.

Anybody know what the 40 yard split is on a 6.58 60meter dash?

technically that number can't be calculated with zero error because his running energy is displaced over a longer period of distance and time, but if you want to break it down to simple math:

(6.58sec / 60m) x 40m = 4.39 seconds.

Of course, we all know for a fact that CJ runs faster than a 4.39-40.

4.2 certainly sounds much more accurate. CJ is one fast tiger.

Mathematically, it would be about a 4.01

Feb 3, 2008, 3:21 PM

Your calculation was for a 40 meter split, not a 40 yard split. If you convert to a 40 yard split, it would be 4.01 seconds. Of course, as mentioned, that assumes he maintains his average speed for the entire distance, which he wouldn't do. Still, to hold the fastest time so far this year is awesome. Spiller and Ford are the first two players I have ever watched on our field that are noticably faster than anyone else. The other guys look like they are jogging in comparison.

good point. the kind folks in Kinard would cringe at my unit conversion overlook.

thanks for bringing that to my attention.

....recalculation is correct. 4.01 is phenominal.

point for your correction

Leave it to a coot(furrcola) to read only part of article or maybe only the words he could.

Now if he would stop dancing, hit the hole, & use that speed

Feb 4, 2008, 2:58 PM

In his freshman year, it seemed that Spiller hit the crease, made a break, and used that awesome speed a lot more than he did last season. Last season it seemed like he spent too much time dancing behind the line (or after receiving a punt/kickoff), and consequently he would get tackled before he had a chance to use his amazing speed and game some yardage. It also seemed like he (too often) chose to run out of bounds rather than fight for an extra couple yards like James Davis (and others) usually do.

Easy for me to say from the comfort of my seat with a cold beer in my hand.

Still, after an electrifying freshman year, I can't help wonder what happened to Lightening last season. Maybe some of the problem was attributable to the blocking or the other teams keying on him. But I think Spiller exhibited the same dancing behavior on kick returns too, so I think much of the problem was attributable to Spiller's change of style. I expected him to get better, not worse. And I expected the coaches to find more ways to exploit Spiller's awesome capabilities. Unfortunately, I don't think that happened. Am I wrong?

I sure hope we get to see Spiller at his best next season. His post-flats-catch right-sideline TD run against GaTech two seasons ago (where he faked two guys out of their jocks) was one of the finest runs I've ever seen.

When he or Jacoby Ford get going, it's like watching a Roadrunner cartoon. Their legs blur, and they're gone.
