Most shocking thing from the game Saturday was this:

Oct 22, 2018, 9:45 AM

Hunter Renfrow actually failed to catch a ball that he got both hands on, at one point during the game. I thought he actually did catch it, but they never even showed a replay, said it hit the ground. I ain't buying that crapp, I think it's a cornspiracy to lower his draft stock.

Speaking of replays, how’bout the sideline catch by

Ross/Higgins (I forget WHICH receiver); however, replays would appear to show his toe touched inbounds first (certainly through my orange colored glasses, anyway... ;) . Dabo called a timeout, but the officials never reviewed. Was there ever any additional explanation?

Whatever choice(s) you make makes you. Choose wisely.

Sure looked like possession with the toe down before the heel hit.

From what I understand based on watching and hearing explanations in other games with similar foot and body placement, if the player has his back to the sideline like Ross did on that catch, his heel has to come down in bounds because he immediately went toe to heel in one fluid motion. If there was any dragging of the toe, it would have been a catch. Watching on TV made it very obvious there was no dragging. Here is the part of the NCAA rule book that shows the ruling was correct:

"Eligible A80 is airborne near the sideline when he receives a legal forward
pass. As he comes to the ground facing the field of play, his toe (a) clearly
drags the ground inbounds before he falls out of bounds; (b) touches
the ground inbounds and then his heel comes down on the sideline in a
continuous motion. He maintains firm control of the ball in both cases.
RULING: (a) Complete pass. (b) Incomplete pass. The continuous toeheel
touching is part of a single process and by interpretation he has landed
out of bounds, thus not executing a catch."

In this case, it was scenario b, incomplete.

Man they put a lot of thought into rules like this.***

Wow, thanks for the explanation.

So the toe and heel are considered to be one entity. A foot.
Dragging is different because the heel never touches.

Whoda thunk it?
