Ranking the SEC College Towns (Expert Poll)

Apr 21, 2015, 3:54 PM

Something we have known for years! I am amazed that only 4 realized this

Four of the 12 voters placed this town as one of the worst two in the SEC

I would put Tuscaloosa a bit higher on the list, it was one of the best gameday experiences I have had. Agree Nashville and Athens should be at the top.

Thought Auburn who is very similar to us, would be higher.***

seems like night life is the major qualifier here,I imagine Auburn has a similar campus to us. i never got to go to a game there.

rating the town, not the campus. The Auburn campus is nice.***

Baton Rouge is also really bad.

So, you have to wonder where Clemson would rank here with

Apr 21, 2015, 5:01 PM

our lake, our garden-like campus, with the beauty of the mountains nearby, and our historical treasures on campus and in surrounding areas? I think at number 3 would be just fine. I can't imagine that Oxford would top us. JMHO.

Just remember they are ranking the town not the campus.

...of being in Columbia." Not a good part, mind you, but the best part of an otherwise miserable experience.

I have had the pleasure of living in Nashville and Athens in recent years, and I can tell you that Nashville wins hands down. It's an awesome mid-sized city with so much to do and the scenery is beautiful. Athens is cool and all, with a very nice downtown area chock full of bars and restaurants, but still a small town with little going for it other than if you're a Dawg fan. And if you're not a Dawg fan, you're treated like a sub-human lol.

Also, how the beautiful little hamlet of Starkville finished behind Cootlumbia is beyond me.

Clemson not included is a travesty of fairness, justice and really bad form, Jack.

I've traveled a good bit and rate the ones I've been to

Apr 21, 2015, 8:25 PM

Note, rating town and not campus:

1. Nashville- this one is not arguable

2. Athens- been there a dozen times and love it.

3. Knoxville- hanging out by the river and pretty good downtown

4- Auburn- been there 4 times and always had a good time. Downtown better than the article suggested.

5. Tuscaloosa- decent downtown but hard to find a beer that is actually cold.

6. Fayetteville- there on business and hopefully never again.

7. Columbia, SC- other than the Vista city is a dump.
