The entire league is playing conference games to start except for Duke. Something about getting people watching the early part of the season.

ACC increased the number of conference games to 20, so the only way to fit that many into schedule was to schedule one or two prior to Christmas.

2 extra conference games this year, but still could have waited a few weeks before the more important games to start.

It's part of a novilty that the ACC wanted to do with a 20 game conference schedule and the kick-off of the ACC Basketball season.
No other conference is doing it. I like it. If you remember the old Big Four Tournament if you are from NC. The Toacco Road ACC Teams used to play in a double-header to start the season. Those games didn't count for the conference though. But it was really fun. You will see some upsets to start the season especially when higher rated teams have to play on the road. Louisville has to play at Miami and the Cards have two players hurt and won't play in the game. That might be one. FSU has to play at a very improved Pitt so watch that one. Also watch Notre Dame at UNC. Even though the Holes are playing at home, they are breaking in a lot of new players and the Irish are much improved with a lot of players back.
