That timeout had nothing to do with running up the score, but only to honor senior players. Can these Carolina players really be that stupid enough to believe that this had anything to do with running up the score?? We were playing our third string by then, and up by tons of points. Unbelievable!

The timeouts were called to create the opportunity to honor the seniors and other players who were graduating/departing for the NFL ... had nothihg to do with anything SCAR-related.
The opponent was a complete afterthought by that point in the game.

I saw the Indiana game this year where they honored Coach Corso and he told this story, which I looked up on SI site and paste here:
In the first minute of the second quarter in its game with Ohio State last year [1977], Indiana scored a touchdown and kicked the extra point. Lee Corso, the Indiana coach, immediately called time and huddled his players on the sideline, where he had a photographer take a picture of the happy group at an angle which allowed the scoreboard to fill the background: INDIANA 7, OHIO STATE 6.
Asked why he did this, Corso said, "It's the first time in 25 years Indiana has led Ohio State in a game. I looked it up. Can you believe it? Twenty-five years! The goal of a lifetime!"
Ohio State went on to win the game 47-7.

Seems to me Louisville and NC State talked revenge. Virginia Tech might have too. We won all three because they were trying too hard to prove something and more focused on that instead of playing game winning football. Syracuse wasn’t playing for revenge. They were focused and we weren’t and they played to win while we tried too hard and didn’t focus. Cuse woke us up. We’ll win because I believe this team will go into Willy B focused and playing to win and the talent will take over the game. If they want revenge let them have it. We turn opponent revenge into Tiger victories.
