UNC in their conference? That would bring an ENTIRELY new market to them and with it, a great basketball school.

I applaud the legislators for using their leverage and turning the tables on the conference. There were already rumors that the SEC was courting UNC during the last round of musical conferences. If you don't think the ACC will think HARD before banning tournaments now that one of their key schools could be up on the block - and yes, the SEC would come calling - you're crazy.

losses from the previous ban? In September 2016, it was already estimated at $150M for the collegiate events ($400M total). That makes $70M look like a drop in the bucket to the state of NC for multiple years of losses. That is simple math and won't stand in the way if another statewide ban is levied.

I can assure you they did not propose such a law without carefully thinking it through.

As you pointed out, they lost $400 million in one year from.

HB2, which seemed to surprise them(in spite of multiple warnings), so I think the "carefully thinking it through" and NC Legislature are contradictory terms.

their own constituents (residents of NC), or the executives of the NBA, Amazon, PayPal, Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, and Maroon 5?

The results simply indicate that regardless of your beliefs and principles, everyone will ultimately be at the mercy of the almighty dollar. Decisions made contrary to that do not always imply stupidity, as some may think.

the NC GOP pointed out that NCAA has played games in Cuba and China, countries with no civil rights, but then they try to make NC people look worse than Hitler for opposing men being allowed in female facilities.

NCAA games in Cuba and China

Posted: Apr 12, 2017 7:07 PM

Hmm.. I didn't the NCAA authorized a CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT in China and Cuba, I thought that those were individual games authorized by the teams and conferences involved, and allowed as EXHIBITIONS! The fact is that one or two games is a lot different from a Championship Tournament. Get back to me when the NCAA Tournament is in Bejing or Havana.

get back to me when the ACC and NCAA has any business bossing people around on bathroom policies.

HB2 was only implemented because Charlotte did an illegal ordinance that mandated PRIVATE businesses allow males who identify as women into female restrooms.

So the Citizens of Charlotte do not have the right..

Posted: Apr 12, 2017 7:28 PM

to elect Legislators to pass laws for the city, unless they pass muster with the state? Which means that the state can dictate social engineering that the people of Charlotte oppose, to fit the Legislature's social beliefs? How could it be an ILLEGAL ORDINANCE if HB2 had to be passed to over ride it? That makes no sense!

surely you understand that some laws can only be passed at state and national level, not at a city level.

isn't it social engineering for the city of CHarlotte to boss around private businesses on their bathroom policies?

can you explain how a man can be a woman? you leftwingers never think you even need to prove it.

transgenderism is a delusion like anorexia. society doesn't pander to skinny girls who think they are fat, so why should we pander to people with delusions about their gender. it is sick to pander to a person's delusion.

Don't give a rats donkey about a law that doesn't do anything. No one is posting police to do a crotch check so a man who does a good costume can go into a women's restroom law or no law. Anorexia, bulimia etc are serious chit. I have had to force my daughter to eat because she was told she was fat by her ballet director. This for a girl who is 5 foot 5 inches 130 lbs and a 24 inch waist. We had to keep track of sharp objects because the pressure made her suicidal. And yes, we exercised parental authority and removed her from that situation. Doesn't change the fact that you are making light of a real issue that impacts a large number of women.

i'm not making light of it. I'm saying you don't agree with the skinny girl that she is fat. so why should society agree with people who think they are opposite sex when you can't be change your gender?

get off your high horse.

'Dr. Paul R. You said anorexia is a delusion. You know it's just in their heads and they should get over it. Try finding your daughter with razor cuts on her arms. It gets a lot more effing real.

It is delusion if you are skinny and think you are fat.

do you not understand what the word delusion means?

i think you are a far left person engaged in faux outrage because you cannot truly think that I'm making light of anorexia.

Re: So the Citizens of Charlotte do not have the right..

No. I am a parent of a child who has struggled with anorexia. It is a serious illness that is very difficult to defeat. Homosexuality is a different issue. It crosses into moral discussions that I don't care to debate. My issue is that you equate the two. One is a clearly defined illness, one is either a mortal sin or who cares depending on your pov.

i have not been discussing homosexuality. transgenderism isn't homosexuality. transgenderism is the false belief that you are the opposite sex. anorexia is the false belief that you are fat even if you are not fat.

i equate the two in the obvious sense that they are both false beliefs.

What? If UNC or NC St pulled out of the ACC, it doesn't bring those revenues back to the state. The NC legislature is threatening an action with everything to lose, namely $140 million and a virtual guarantee the ACC doesn't come back. Your math doesn't add up. And for the record, I hope the legislature brings the ACC back to Charlotte.

Finally ,someone with a enough common sense not

Tables not turned. This is just silly political positioning. Tables definitely not turned.

And, the ACC can choose to host their events wherever its schools choose. Other than the fact that I love having the football championship in Charlotte, I wish the ACC would keep everything out of NC just to spite these weak-minded politicians. Don't they have a road to get paved somewhere?

Complete morons. This would be worse than the death penalty for those schools. It would be a 20+ year death penalty.

Through the GOR the ACC OWNS all of its members right now.

This is the same as South Carolina Legislature forcing Clemson and USUC to play every year after they dropped out of the ACC. The conference will never ban NC again.

I have seen this student in the men's bathroom on a field trip even though biologically this student is a female. The student went into the stall and not a huge deal.

North Carolina used to be pretty balanced, now it's a right-winged embarrassment joining Texas.

The most ridiculous thing about the whole thing..

Posted: Apr 12, 2017 6:55 PM

is that UNC, along with Duke and Wake Forest, said they would REFUSE to enforce HB2. So these idiots are trying to threaten the ACC about a law that one of these schools was against anyway. Do these legislators not know their own state?

Re: The most ridiculous thing about the whole thing..

not everybody at those colleges supports men in bathrooms, and certainly not every alumni.

Nope, but not everyone in NC supported ...

Posted: Apr 12, 2017 7:15 PM

this unnecessary and silly bill either. The fact is that more people were against the bill than were in favor of it, outside the Legislature and Governor McCrory(who lost). The whole law was a waste of good legislative time that could have been spent on roads, education, unemployment, and the budget instead political posturing for an unenforceable answer to a problem that didn't exist.

Re: Nope, but not everyone in NC supported ...

Posted: Apr 12, 2017 7:18 PM

unemployment would be much higher if Democrats controlled NC, b/c they would implement high tax, anti-right to work laws, that keep companies out.

there wasn't much opposition to the bill, which is why the NCAA tried to blackmail people by pulling sports out and Democrat party tried to do economic retaliation.

Exactly...

how do these idiots get elected. Trump is a national embarrassment and so is NC.

because during the 2010 census, all the state districts were redrawn, insuring that at both the state and federal seats were taken by a majority of knuckle draggers. combine this with citizens united, and no seat is safe unless you do what your big money donors tell you.

2019 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg

You should never chalk up to conspiracy what you can reliably attribute to stupidity. Because stupidity is a much more powerful force in the course of human events.

Well, the ACC should quit screwing North Carolina. Go to the right bathroom is just common sense. To listen to the ACC and the NCAA, you would think NC is lynching gays or something. Pee in the place you are plumbed for. Not too hard.
