So now that the law has passed in CA...

Oct 2, 2019, 8:19 AM

...and the rest of the states are soon to follow, how much longer will Dabo be our coach? He’s on record saying that he will “go do something else” if players start getting paid.

Most of America chooses NOT to listen to anything coming out of CA, nor do they choose to follow what they do. CA is like a foreign country that does not use logic in their decisions.

12 other states are already exploring it as well

Including South Carolina

SC has explored this before...

it was overwhelmingly shot down. Here, it’s nothing more than a politician trying to make a name for himself.

This thing doesn't even go into the effect for 3 years and

the NCAA will try to fight it and/or come up with their own compromising solution.

I think the NCAA exploratory committee is supposed to release their own recommendations later this month.

No it cannot. This law makes that an illegal act

The NCAA will be fighting to win that back, but now that it's law, they don't stand much of a chance. The law specifically states (yes, I read it. it's only 5 pages long) that the NCAA cannot place sanctions against a player or institution just because a player accepts $$ from sponsors.

The California Law doesn't apply outside of California. California selectively enforced laws any way. Well have to see what other states pass and NCAA does. Also, the school's control logos and uniforms so any player likeness may have to be in a generic uniform unless the school's grant permission. Maybe for a cut too!

Oct 2, 2019, 2:02 PM [ in reply to No it cannot. This law makes that an illegal act ]

“The NCAA believes the California measure would violate the federal Commerce Clause and may not withstand a legal challenge; Remy cited a previous case in California in which the state tried to inhibit the NCAA from enforcing its rules. The NCAA won that case.”
