So lets say I offered 25k to a Bama player for his autograph

Then he ends up entering the transfer portal and going to Clemson. Has any rule actually been broken with him benefiting from his likeness? What's to stop this at every major university in football and basketball? You can't police that.

The legal hullabaloo concerning this business hasn't even started.... The 5 stars, etc., missing classes, team meetings and practice because they're spending half their time dealing with marketing agents... and they keep their scholarships and team positions because their lawyers say it's an unassailable right to do so, protected by law....

Have mercy, please. It's a brave new world in CFB. But, at the same time -

Players can have agents according to the California law...

...which I use as an example because the NCAA didn’t really define what their program will be.

Anyway, if you are a five star athlete, you probably get an agent. Why wouldn’t that agent call Nike and Under Armor and ask about the appearance fees they could coordinate if that athlete goes to one of their schools? Of course they would.
