My Steve Smith story-

Jan 11, 2017, 9:51 AM

Steve Smith Sr was there all 3 years I was. He is the most gracious to his fans. Spent lots of time with fans after practice. Each time he signed an autograph for someone, he handed it back and they would say 'Thank you', he would say, "No, thank you!" Speaking of parenting- I have seen him first hand trying to teach children how to behave. One day he had been out there for like 30 min talking and signing autographs. He was done. I was escorting him off the field (which means walking beside him talking about what he was going to eat for dinner) and a group of kids were standing at the fence yelling for him. He went over there- They were asking for his shoes, gloves, wristbands etc etc...(Let me have, gimme this) Some of the kids just started grabbing at stuff. He pulled away and gave them a lesson in being civil and acting like they have sense for about 5 minutes. Then as he started walking away another kid a little ways down said, "Mr. Smith- Will you sign this please", and all he had was the poster they gave out free that day. He signed it, then took off his wristbands- signed them, his headband-signed it, his gloves, signed them, and then his cleats, and signed them. Told the boy to stick his arms out and he loaded him up. He looked at the other kids, and said - see when you act like you have sense, good things happen. Then he looked at me, and asked me to help him find his momma so the other kids wouldn't steal his stuff. That day I gained a tremendous respect for Steve Smith Sr. And the next day time I did was "ICE UP SON! ICE UP". Love me some Steve Smith Sr.
