Do seniors have to declare for the NFL? Does anyone really have to declare for it? Or do they just show up at a combine and try out? I get that underclassmen have to state intentions but is it necessary other than for recruiting or preparing a new player? Or is combine by invitation only? Is there a separate NFL tryout for non invitees? How do it work?

The combine is by invitation only. To be considered one must declare for the draft. To be drafted one must declare as why would a team pick a player who was returning to college?

Don’t understand the whole process, but I do know it’s by invitation only. Roughly 300 to 350 players.

Pro days are held at most major schools where players not invited to the NFL combine can show their talents in front of NFL coaches and scouts. I don't know all of the details but believe players from other schools can attend a pro day at Clemson
