Should the punishment equal the Auburn tree's guy

Jun 13, 2013, 1:29 PM

punishment or exceed it?

Is there anything in the governors power to propose legislation for SEVERE punishment for any future acts of this magnitude?

And by severe I'm talking 20 to life.

simply release his name, address and photo to the public.

Yes. It should be the max. What is next? Ripping a head off

Jun 13, 2013, 1:38 PM

of a statue? Poisoning UGA? Cutting the horns off of the Navy Goat? Like I said on another site, a prank is one thing. Vandalism is entirely different. Back in the 60's when the coots took the Orangeburg high school uniforms and trotted out on the field to mock our team. Now, that was just funny(although I hear it lead to a major brawl amongst fans who hit the field). But, that was comical. I also heard about a Clemson student one year who flew over Willie Brice and dropped a live chicken on the field, but I have never confirmed that. Anyway, those are jokes. But destroying an historical piece is different. Much different.

A year in jail can ruin your family, kids, and job future.

Jun 13, 2013, 1:38 PM

I'd say that's fairly severe.

If you're that much of an idiot

Jun 13, 2013, 1:42 PM

you are a risk to your family, kids, and job if you are NOT in jail.

Lots of idiots in this world. Think of how many text while

It takes a lot of tax money to incarcerate.***

Agree. Just saying that just because they don't get a life

Jun 13, 2013, 1:51 PM

sentence, which most murderers don't get, one year can do a lot of damage.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

if he's a coot, his punishment should be that he gets a JOB.

I hope it is worse than Harvey Updyke's as he was just released from jail after only a 76 day time period. He is now free to go back to Louisiana where he has another trial for threats he made to individuals at Lowe's. He does face financial restitution of $1 million for the damage to the trees he is currently fighting as well. Pretty sad he only went to jail for this time period for vandalism like this.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It should exceed it, he trespassed and committed more

Jun 13, 2013, 1:53 PM

acts of vandalism (removing the lock, then destroying the rock).

Harvey Updyke was in a public place, so he didn't have the trespassing charge.

He only served 74 days in jail I believe.

Not to mention the person was attempting to steal

Jun 13, 2013, 2:15 PM

the rock, and did in fact steal part of it.

Hopefully CU will also try to sue in civil court for whatever they can try to pursue, trespass, trespass to chattel, conversion, etc.

Harvey Updyke got a 3 year sentence, 6 months in jail and credit for the 104 days served.

I had the perfect punishment for Harvey Updyke

Jun 13, 2013, 2:10 PM

he should have to do community service (trash detail) on Auburn's campus during every Auburn game for as long as he lived, and also during the time that Alabama has a game (so he can never go to/watch a Bama game live for the rest of his life).

If the game times coincide, he gets a freebie that weekend and only has to work a half day.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Life probably wouldn't be very long

Jun 13, 2013, 2:22 PM

if he spent every week on Auburn's campus at game time.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think, based on the $500 value of the property, he's

Jun 13, 2013, 2:15 PM

probably looking at only 30 days on each charge. Probably probation realistically.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Did they castrate the Auburn tree guy?***

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Unless a Clemson fan/student did it...

Jun 13, 2013, 4:02 PM

In that event, we can look on it as a case of "Boys will be boys."
