Should Bama winning 3 of 4 retire the "SEC blah blah blah"

Jan 8, 2013, 12:54 PM

argument:

Does the SEC "own" College Football? Nope. Alabama owns it. Bama owns that conference too. No doubt they have a dynasty but I don't think the SEC should be able to lay claim to ONE TEAM'S accomplishments. The league had a point when it was LSU, UF, Bama, Auburn--those are different programs.

SEC, beat Bama like the rest of us need to then you can talk.

Agreed. Did the ACC own back when Miami one theirs?***

You do realize Alabama won the Nation Championship last year but could not win the SEC Championship. They have been beaten by other teams it just so happens they were all in the SEC. So while they may be king of the mountain to you, to the others in the SEC they are just anther hard conference win.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They're 38-6 in the SEC in the last 5 years.***

That is why the SEC bias is so uncalled for. If Bama can play in the National Championship last year then Oregon should have taken Bama's place in the championship this year. The same arguments SEC teams made for Bama playing the championship last year should have taken Bama out of the championship this season.

Since Alabama's tough OOC schedule only comes around during bowl time, it's really only SEC opponents that get chances to beat them. So that's not really a good argument. "Hey, Pac-12 teams don't seem to beat Clemson" could also be said.

The facts are 5 SEC schools combined for a 9-1 record in BCS championship games. The one loss (LSU) being to another SEC team (Alabama).

As for other conferences:
Big 12 2 Oklahoma (2000), Texas (2005) 2–5
ACC 1 Florida State (1999) 1–2
Big Ten 1 Ohio State (2002) 1–2
Big East 1 Miami (2001) 1-2

If it were not for these ridiculous facts, I'd say it was all hype too.

How is it Bama has 3 of 4 NC but just 2 of 4 SEC titles?

Jan 8, 2013, 1:07 PM

Shouldn't have to win your conference to be able to play for the National Championship?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's something people only say for college football...

Jan 8, 2013, 1:13 PM

Doesn't apply to college basketball, or any pro sport (divisions instead of conferences).

It also means they don't dominate the SEC conference, just the rest of the conferences.

That's the problem, the SEC processes the only teams that can, and do, beat Alabama.

Perhaps Clemson should schedule Alabama again. It's been 108 years since Clemson has beaten Alabama. You're due for a win.

Good point I suppose, but that was 2008. And consequently, the same year Clemson last played Alabama.

Florida won 3 of the 7 straight. So yes the SEC owns college football and I wish we were a part of it.

5 SEC teams have won 11 since '92. In the same span the next closest is 2. The SEC has been dominant. Get over it and hope we can turn it around.
