Should #13 be retired in honor of Renfrow?
Aug 17, 2018, 9:33 AM
|
|
Outside of DW4, is there another athlete that has dominated 2 National Championship games like Renfrow has?(maybe even a 3rd this year?) Hunter is a legend and I believe his number should be retired.... bc no other #13 is going to live up to what Hunter has and is doing.

I'm not big on the whole number retirement thing

Look what happened with #4 and #28. Rather, it seems like #13 has become a "legendary" or "role" number, what with Humphries and now Renfrow wearing it. I'd rather pass on the tradition of the overachieving, under the radar guy

Grisham and Humphries were both freak athletes, way more athletic than Renfrow. If either one of those guys had played with Deshaun they would have both had massive years

Humphries had Boyd, DW4 wouldn't have changed a thing

Hunter may not be as talented as them, but he is the better WR... and its not close.

Exactly, Humphries had Boyd. Deshaun would have made Humphries an All ACC guy

No ... in fact, stop retiring numbers entirely.

That’s just my personal opinion.
It just causes problems down the road.
For years Clemson fans considered Steve Fuller the best Tiger QB ever and retired #4 ... only to have to tap dance around the situation to accommodate Deshaun Watson.
The same thing will eventually happen with any “retired” number.
Some hot shot all world 5-Star Guy is going to demand #13 some year and we’re going to give it to him regardless of Hunter Renfro, so why go down that road?
Just think of some other way of honoring our great players.

Retire their name instead . How many Hunter Renfrows and Deshaun Watsons are going to play here again ? If they did , would they be good enough to have a name retired ? I think of these things after breakfast . It'swhen I am at my most thinkable .

After breakfast, I normally just start thinking about lunch. Never hurts to plan ahead as far as possible concerning the really important things.

I would rather they made it the "hustle" number. Different

players earn it from week to week, depending on who was deemed to have the best rated performance the previous week. To me, that is what sets Renfrow apart. NOBODY works harder at their craft, to maximize the ability that they were given.

No. Instead, retire the position.

For example, it TL ends up averaging 5000 yds passing and 50 TD's per year in the 3 years he will play, no one else will ever live up to that. Retire the QB position.

You can't retire somebody's number for playing good in 2 or 3 games. That comes from putting up big numbers and making big plays in every game. He hasn't even been the leading receiver on the team

I don't think we should. We are WRU and will have so many great ones, I think retired numbers should be for the most extreme cases such at Deshaun. I wouldn't retire Hunter's number ahead of Sammy's or Nuk's or maybe even ARtavis. We're going to have so many great WR's. It makes me think it has to be an extreme case to retire a number.

When he catches the game winner in the CFP NC this year #13 will go up on the Ring Of Honor. That will be enough!

Never ever retire a number. Use the promise of wearing a number for recruiting. Retire a jersey to honor past stars but not the number

No, Just hang a picture of his last catch in the championship drive in full size in the stadium. Should be a collage with Williams, Leggett, Cain key catches and Watson's leap for the goal, Gallman's TD and Fuller's last drive kickoff return. Need another collage honoring D's three and outs.
