Secondary

Feb 6, 2016, 9:42 AM

I actually think our Safety play will be just as strong. Although you cant replace the physical dominance of JK and TG i think they played out of their zones quite frequently and allowed too many gashing plays. Havent seen a ton of VS and not sure what to expect out of Korrin/Van. But JJ will step up and one of those guys will as well.

Losing Mac is tougher but looking forward to Fields becoming what Tank did last year.

Van didn't get much time

Feb 6, 2016, 9:48 AM

But when he played, he looked AMAZING. He has gamer written all over him.

Agreed. Interested to see where and how well Korrin gets back in the fold. Smart player.

I'm mostly concerned with physicality and playing

Id rather see guys not miss a td saving tackle and take good angles than hit like a truck. Although i think Van can.

I also think if this Muse kid progresses he will be a monster. 2 sport star who just decided to focus on football last year. Coming out of HS at 6'4 and 220 before our power hours... Thats scary

Wiggins should be good against the run

Jadar is more of a coverage guy. I think our secondary will be more diversified and we'll play different guys more against certain teams.

Secondary and special teams cost us a second NC. We were told all season long that "we'll fix it" but in the end, it didn't get fixed and we paid dearly for it. We only waited 35 years for the chance and blew it.

Remind us again when the coots were national champs?

Feb 6, 2016, 11:40 AM

Preseason and Bama trophies don't count!!!

People are overlooking Jadar Johnson. He will take one of the safety slots. The other will be between Van Smith or Korrin Wiggins.

LOL we "blew the national championship". Sheeeeeesh. There were probably 100+ teams that didn't get in at all, your sour grapes is funny.

Did you watch the game? What would you call receivers running totally free in the secondary and special teams that don't lay a hand on the kickoff returner. Bad play?? We should have won the game handily without these screw ups.

Maybe there will be a slight simplification of assignments

Feb 6, 2016, 12:46 PM

with the new starters. This might have an unexpected consequence of fewer missed assignments.

Albarn with Malzan will test our ability to get quickly into the right formations & play calls. We need to avoid the big plays early .... See if teams can matriculate down the field.
