Scrapping Conferences & starting over with Div. I "Big 64"

May 16, 2012, 10:25 AM

Despite the Armageddon Effect by diehard fans everywhere, TV contracts nullified and travel agents be d@mned...here goes a geographical alignment that could lead to a workable playoff system.

SOUTHERN

1. Clemson
2. Duke
3. Florida St.
4. Miami
5. N. Carolina
6. N. Carolina St.
7. Wake Forest
8. Alabama
9. Arkansas
10.Auburn
11.Florida
12.Georgia
13.L.S.U.
14.Mississippi
15.Ole Miss
16.S. Carolina

NORTHEAST

1. Boston College
2. Maryland
3. Virginia
4. Virginia Tech
5. Pittsburgh
6. Syracuse
7. West Virginia
8. Connecticut
9. Tennessee
10.Vanderbilt
11.Louisville
12.Kentucky
13.Penn State
14.Ohio State
15.Michigan
16.Michigan St.

MIDWEST

1. Indiana
2. Purdue
3. Notre Dame
4. Illinois
5. Missouri
6. Wisconsin
7. Iowa
8. Iowa State
9. Minnesota
10.Nebraska
11.Kansas
12.Kansas St.
13.Oklahoma
14.Oklahoma St.
15.Texas
16.Texas A&M

WESTERN

1. Arizona
2. Arizona St.
3. California
4. Colorado
5. Oregon
6. Oregon St.
7. UCLA
8. USC
9. Utah
10.Washington
11.Washington St.
12.BYU
13.Boise State
14.Baylor
15.Texas Tech
16.TCU

With apologies to Northwestern & Colorado State getting dropped out, and the West getting stretched out a little bit, this would work from a GEOGRAPHY point of view quite well. I'm sure I've forgotten or left out someone, but it's all in fun & not a reality. Divide them into divisions or pods and PLAYOFFS!!

GT, but they are a thorn in our side, so I see why they were left out. lol

And why is Duke in it?***

I debated Duke & Wake a little

May 16, 2012, 11:18 AM

Duke got the pass because of hoops & I'll fix my GT mistake by sending WF to the 'minors'...they only have about 1500 students anyway.

hoops doesn't matter

May 16, 2012, 11:20 AM

this is for football, they would be in the top division for basketball

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

True, they would need to join the Big East Basketball League

May 16, 2012, 11:24 AM

They are a very small school as well, bigger than WF, 6k undergrad & 8k grad students...weird.

Thanks for the proofreading...keep it up to help me out!

Later Stanford***

Who gets the boot to fix Stanford: Cal or Boise State?

May 16, 2012, 11:21 AM

Might cause a little debate on the BSU issue once again? A 'one sport wonder' versus Cal who I'd call barely average at most sports doesn't bring a whole lot either.

sounds good

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's coming, Conferences will be for non-revenue sports*****

A minor suggestion:

May 16, 2012, 3:12 PM

Add two teams to each division, bringing the total to 68.

Depending on the sport, different teams will be in the bottom of their respective divisions, and therefore would not be a factor in any sort of playoff.

For example, your Southern Division of 18 could include GTech and someone like So. Miss or ECU or whoever.

The West would pick up Stanford and San Diego State or Hawaii.

The Northeast needs to be renamed anyway, with Vanderbilt and Midwest teams int here. Make it the Mutant Division and include a couple of otherwise castoffs.

The only issue comes in conference scheduling for football. But if each division is further split, you get 9-team splits, which makes things easier.
