Scotch drinkers: what are you enjoying this weekend?

May 24, 2020, 1:40 PM

The bourbon thread inspired me to create this one. I’m drinking the Glenlivet 12 Year Double Oak and it’s nice. It is in the $40-$45 price range. If you like Speyside scotches, you’ll like it. A nice alternative to the regular Glenlivet 12 Year, which as we all know is very good in its own right.

I love a good peaty scotch myself. Everything from Laphroaig is great.

Have you tried Lagavulin?

May 24, 2020, 2:28 PM

It’s a nice peaty one as well.

Like a Johnny Blue when I get a chance. Red’s ok for the norm.

A nice blend for sure!***

One of my favorite subjects. 1) Dalmore 12, 2) Balveine 18 (If you can afford it) and McCallen 12. All great served neat with a few drop of water.

Excellent! Thank you for sharing.

Macallan 12 is always stocked in my bar.

I’ve had Balvenie 12 Year Double Wood and liked it a lot. Haven’t had the Balvenie 18 but am sure it’s outstanding.

Did you hear that Dalmore recently released a 51 year old whisky? Only $71,000! :-D

Deanston virgin oak right now.

Some of the cheaper ones I like:

Glen Moray port cask
Lismore
Bowmore Islay
Ballantine 12 blend

For big name brands...can't beat Glenmorangie or Glenlivet. Get the 1.75 bottles for a good deal.

Dimple Pinch is a great blend.

Famous Grouse is still my "everyday" Scotch . . .

May 24, 2020, 5:36 PM

Macallan 12 is the only top shelf I keep . . . Why change if you like it?!!!

May 24, 2020, 5:58 PM

I’ll try that. What’s a bottle of grouse go for?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

1.75 from Green's in the Low $40 range . . .

May 24, 2020, 6:30 PM

Remember . . . "Everyday"

It is a blend of Macallan and Highland . . . Highland being a more "smoky" scotch . . . Hard to beat . . . Converted my Aunt in Atlanta years ago with one simple drink . . . btw, she has ~60 years experience drinking scotch . . . She just turned 80!!!

Enjoy . . .

Bet! I’ll give it a shot!

A lady that went to our church in Savannah in her late seventies, perfect health and just as spry as can be swore by three fingers o’ scotch every morning!

Only have one bottle currently, so it will be:
Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year

(Recommended to me as an intro to scotch)
