Rules on how to act while interacting with cops

Jun 19, 2020, 3:08 PM

1- Do not get mouthy
2- Do not move about
3- Follow instructions
4- Do not resist, fight or run
5- Go to court and fight it there, not at time of arrest

Failure to do the above most always brings consequences. Yes there have been times people did 1-4 and bad stuff still happened but those are rare . Mostly stop being stupid.Stupid hurts and is sometimes deadly.

Yup, not wanting to murder someone drunk and passed out in their car is implicitly endorsing drunk driving.

Re: Rules on how to act while interacting with cops

Jun 19, 2020, 4:03 PM

See what I mean? Not wanting to murder someone doesn't mean I think they're an angel. At one point, I'm pretty sure our legal system was designed to protect the innocent. This means that occasionally you're going to let a bad guy go free in hopes of never harming an innocent person. This is why a lot if not most police departments prohibit chasing a motorcycle over a certain speed or have pretty strict rules about high speed car chases.

My bad. If I had thought about it more, maybe I would have expected this response. I was more referring to the rallying cry against police brutality back then. How about "I can't breathe"? Or did he deserve to die too?

Re: "Hands up don't shoot"? You mean where that fat punk thug

It was a rallying cry based on a lie (according to the Obama Justice Dept, it didn't happen). George Floyd did not deserve to die. That was wrong in every way and a very different situation.

They are officers of the court.

Jun 19, 2020, 4:40 PM [ in reply to So we're going with be sure to be blindly obedient ]

Anyway you shake it they are hired to extend the court's authority to our streets. People who have issues with cops have one of two problems.

Either they have a bad history with cops which is due to their attitudes or they have issues with all authority. The flaw which always caused my problems with the cops is my consideration for 'what would happen if I got caught.'

That is a fundamental flaw in a law breaker's logic. When I began to consider 'what would happen when I get caught,' I quit crossing the line of lawful to unlawful actions.

Is it too much to ask for people to not break the law?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The theory being advanced, ultimately, is that since

Jun 19, 2020, 4:46 PM

America is a racist nation and all laws are a product of it's systemically racist, oppressive government, certain people should not only be not expected to obey those laws, but even should be praised for breaking them. This includes fighting the police and giving the finger to the courts.

So yes, there is a case being made that it's not only too much to ask people not to break the law, it's wrong to do so.

Re: They are officers of the court.

Jun 19, 2020, 4:49 PM [ in reply to They are officers of the court. ]

I really want to live in whatever world you're from. The one where cops only harass criminals, or where as long as you didn't do anything wrong you've got nothing to worry about. This is the lie that all this is based on, that you get what you deserve. You might believe that because it has always worked that way for you, but man open your eyes and see that it doesn't work that way for everyone.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've been harrassed by the cops.

Jun 19, 2020, 5:27 PM

It was wrong and it was unfair. It pissed me off. But I didn't run my mouth, argue, fight, resist, or try to run away. The worst thing about it? I was pissed. Big deal. I guarantee that if I had grabbed their gun, smarted off, or wrestled with them, I would have lost. I knew that, sucked it up, and lived to tell about it - unscathed. Some people are just too stupid to do that. Do some cops wrongly beat or kill innocent people? Absolutely - I've known some who did that. No excuse for it, but they are a tiny minority. Hordes of racist cops riding around looking for Black people to beat and kill? Total, 100% bullshid.

Is it now lost on everyone that cops are "public servants"? I'm always polite but the idea that we have to limit ourselves so as not to agitate the guys with the guns is backwards.

If they can't deal with the public, they shouldn't be cops in the first place.

in the first place."

I agree 100%.

But police have handcuffs and sticks and guns and tasers, and the authority to use them for a reason. They are, and must be, more than good-natured servants; they are obligated to enforce the law. When criminals and/or suspects resist or turn violent, it is important that the police be allowed to prevail. That is part of the service we expect.

There are plenty of laws on the books that aren't enforced. It's 2020, I'm sure if we want a police force incapable of making judgement calls, RoboCops aren't too far away.
