Royal Brutality

Jun 16, 2020, 4:15 PM

It seems as though everyone has a complaint these days related in some way to an injustice that occurred many years ago. I didn't want to be the only one left out of the current discussion.

This particular event happened on Aug. 22, 1485, just a few years before I was born. Richard III, known as "the HOG" was king of England. One of his good buddies was Sir William Catesby, known as "The Cat". This is where my beef lies, Sir William was one of my ancestors. Richard III was from the House of York. Apparently your house was an important element in the scheme of royal shenanigans. Henry Tudor, he of the House of Tudor, and Richard III were not the best of friends. To put it bluntly, they were enemies. On Aug 22, 1485, they met at Bosworth and it was not a gathering for a fox hunt, they both anted to be King.

Sitting on the side line was The Earl of Oxford, who I will dub as "The Chicken". He didn't want to get his duds blooded early in the AM so he decided to wait and see who was going to win the battle so he could jump on the bandwagon. Well, Henry was getting the best of Richard and when Richard lost his horse he sent word to Willian Shakespeare that if he ever wrote something about the battle, to please include this comment, "My horse, my horse. My Kingdom for a horse".

Sir William was captured. He had to cede all of his property, estimated in today's money to be worth in the billions of dollars. Of course, Richard had given Sir Willian all of this property in the first place. Anyway, Sir William had to cede all of this property. After signing his name to the statement, Henry, now King Henry VII, had his men behead Sir William Catesby. If that isn't cruel and inhuman suffering I don't know what is, so I'm registering an official complaint.

Sir William Catesby is buried in the old family church at Ashby St.Ledgers, England. I've visited the church on several occasions. I presume both parts, body and, head are interred there in the place that says he's there.

Joe you do know that you will have to lead the protest, and get people to carry signs with Sir William Catesby life mattered!!! AND, your protesters may have to burn and loot some buildings to get concerned citizens and media to hear your claim, or it could be for not ;)!!!!

Aah, the good old days! (I think Carly Simon wrote a song about them...) But really, how simple things used to be when war and political advantage was ruthlessly pursued as the chief occupation and purpose of mankind! My, how things have changed. Oh, wait... maybe not.

Thanks, Sir Joe21, you bring a lot of sanity to an insane world!

Go Tigers!!!

I have always enjoyed your posts. i consider you Tigernet royalty even if those Englisters have stolen your birthright. as Chief Dan George reminds us "Endeavor to persevere". i do have a few extra pounds you can have but i doubt if they are the kind taken from your family.
