Rolling the calendar back a half of a decade, How did a QB

May 4, 2018, 11:10 PM

with the touch and the strong arm that Tajh Boyd had as our QB, the QB that came to Clemson and helped turn our program around to what it is today 2018, not make it into the NFL as a top NFL QBa. I truly believe that if it hadn't been for some in the FB world talking down and trashing Tajh's abilities as a College QB and as an NFL prospect, I think that Tajh would have been given more time to prove himself as an elite QB. I also believe that all those that was doing Tajh the most harm in the media, were the one's that purely hated seeing Dabo becoming a successful college HC after thay had laughed out so loud at Dabo, and Dabo proved them all wrong. I think that it had a lot to do with the way they beat Tajh down hoping to prove how wrong Dabo was about Tajh Boyd. BC for what ever the reason was, I didn't believe that Tajh was ever given a real fair chance to prove himself in the NFL. He was every bit as good as Russel Wilson IMO in college, but for what ever the reasons were, Tajh was never given the same chances that RW was given...

Tajh Boyd was a winner, and I still believe if given a fair chance with the right team, Tajh would still be putting the ball in the hands of receivers all over the field. Tajh was force through the cracks I believe bc of hateful, spiteful media!!! Yes it still bothers me that a great Clemson QB didn't get his fair chance to prove himself. He was given only a few lousy minutes to lose everything he had worked hard for and was good at it!!!

I’ll also add that the negative reporting on Boyd was started exclusively by a hack named Tony Pauline. Ultimately his sources were the Atlanta Falcons staff that served as coaches on Boyd’s team at that year’s senior bowl. That was led by Mike Smith, a defensive specialist, who would be fired later that year by the Falcons after leading them to back to back losing seasons despite having Matt Ryan as his quarterback. Virtually the entire coaching staff, the ones who poisoned the well for Boyd, would be fired that season.

I will forever hold a nasty grudge against Pauline, and every time I see something that he has wrote, I will go to his email and unload on him, and yes, it do make me feel better. He was one of the main ones that help destroy a kids career in sports. Look at Tajh's body of works leading up to the NFL, and he was good enough to make if he hadn't of had all the added pressure mounted on him along with the normal pressure of making it into the NFL!!!! But I do believe that Tajh was a target of the hate and jealousy of the success of Dabo Swinney. They couldn't get to Dabo, so they went after his star player!!!

Tajh is one of my favorite Tigers. To me his biggest problem was between the ears. Couldnt make post snap reads fast enough and would panic and just unload it no matter what.

Still he threw one of the prettiest deep balls I’ve ever seen. No reason he at a minimum shouldn’t be a backup in the league right now.

He just didn't show what was needed

given the chance with 3 different teams. Is there any situation in the NFL where he would be successful? Probably, but you rarely get more than a few chances.

He was great for us but there is so little

room for error in NFL. I am surprised he is not a backup though.

He also had one of the best WR corps ever in CFB making his life easier here. By comparison, DW has shown us what level you need to be at for the NFL. Tajh is one of many great college QBs not meant for the league. Nothing to be ashamed of.

But that is with all great QB's. Show me a great QB that didn't have at least one great WR!!!

This won't be popular, and I hate to say it myself, but Tajh may have hurt his draft stock by coming back for his senior year. If he had gone pro after the LSU game, there's a good chance he would have gone higher in the draft and been given more time to establish himself in the NFL.

Agreed. In many cases the smaller the sample size, the better. More film is more of a chance to be picked apart. A lot times it better to go with popping up on their radar mid season and going in the draft fresh than come back and have all eyes on you for an entire season. That being said, tajh also was throwing to 6 NFL receivers, an NFL ight end and NFL rb in college..

..and sadly TB lost to Coots

May 5, 2018, 9:38 AM

too many times while trying so hard not to..which was a problem in itself..thinking of not losing & the pressure he created for himself.

Still, one of my favorites and of course i too loved his long ball & running it in near the goal line..

and his play in two bowls (vs lsu & buckies).

Bill I love you, but Tajh had help at creating pressure on him that should have never been there by a full grown adult. And Tajh did try to hard to prove the nay Sayers wrong!!!

You don’t know how the NFL works do you?

May 5, 2018, 11:07 AM

We all love Tajh. He did and continues to do more for Clemson than most.

But the NFL isn’t about what the media says or what you do in college. Up and coming scouts love finding the overlooked guy. Young position coaches love molding a player most thought couldn’t be coached up. GMs love late round draft success- makes them look smart(Tom Brady and Antonio Brown were 6th round picks like TB.)

Tajh had opportunities with two NFL teams, and two Canadian teams. He had his chances, and for whatever reason it didn’t pain out. And it’s not a media conspiracy.

Believe it or not, coaches and player personnel staff do not pour over newspapers, websites, and magazines for player assessments. They have their own tape, stats, and impressions. And yes, they make mistakes, but Tajh has had four quality chances to prove himself and he didn’t make the cut.

Just get over it mang.

Re: Rolling the calendar back a half of a decade, How did a QB

Completely disagree. He was extremely slow at getting rid of the ball and lacked quickness. Just because he played for Clemson doesn’t mean he could be good in the NFL. I knew Tajh was not an NFL quarterback because I watch a lot of NFL and use to play myself. No one sabotaged him. He just wasn’t good enough

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I guess he will always wonder what if he'd come out

May 5, 2018, 11:16 AM

after the Chik-fil-A bowl game. I was at the Georgia
Dome that New Year's Eve with my son BigAl and it was
one of the most incredible things i've seen in 45 years
of watching Clemson football. Sammy Watkins was gone after
the first series and Tajh was taking a pounding about the
whole game from the LSU defense. But he kept getting back
up and Nuk was having a great game and it all played out
perfectly.

But he began and ended his senior year in 2013 with great
performances against UGA and Ohio State. I think the 0fer
against the coots and the awful game against FSU on national
TV with Gameday in town hurt him maybe more than we'll ever
know. He's a super nice guy and i met him at work last year
when he stopped by while working with Piedmont National, a
packaging supplies company (I don't know if he still works
for them).
