Rocket Launch

Aug 13, 2018, 10:37 AM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlyuSwRSVHU

Parker Solar Probe is on it's way to the Sun. My daughter is a rocket scientist for ULA and worked on that rocket. She interned there this summer and accepted a job after 1 more semester of school. She took my wife and I on a tour so we got to see it up close and personal. It is amazing how big it really is. They are sending astronauts back up into space in a year or so. Can't wait to get down there and watch a launch.

Took my Meme to watch one of the 4 AM Shuttle launches in late '90s when you could park inside the Air Base across the lagoon from the rocket. She was 90 years old. Was the highlight of my memories of her. She was like a child that morning. She went from A Model Fords to Moon walking to Low Earth Stations...

The surface is about 10,000 deg F the temp is 1,000,000 deg

F where the probe is going. Which makes no sense. We are used to fires getting hotter as you get closer not the other way around. The Parker Solar Probe should be able to tell us why that happens.

It might slip to 2020

Boeing was looking to launch the Starliner on a ULA Atles V in a couple of months but had to push it back to the end of the year. Boeing and Spacex both are planning to send astronauts next year.

People have been saying "we're sending astronauts next year"

Aug 14, 2018, 9:28 AM

for the past 7 years since they retired the shuttle. I thought Orion or Dream Chaser would be it, if not that then the Dragon capsule with SpaceX. Paying Russia hundreds of millions for a couple Uber rides to the ISS is embarrassing.

Saying that, I hope so. We need to get our collective ##### back to low earth orbit, the moon, and then to Mars. Hopefully Boeing will get it done.

Not many parents get to say "My daughter is a rocket scientist." You and your wife must be so proud. Congrats!
