Clemson 10- Adam Humphries 1

Hate to say it, but Adam Humphries is almost entirely to blame for losing this one. You can talk about the trick play or the Tajh fumble, but Clemson lost at least two possessions because of Adam's lack of focus on punt returns. Time to find somebody else on returns.

He did not muff the first punt. Bryant knocked him off the ball for no reason whatsoever.
Adam caught several key passes to keep drives alive.
He fumbled late while trying to get something going on a punt return. Out of 6 turnovers he was only responsible for the one.
Adam Humphries was about the last player we can blame the loss on.
He!! ... Adam is in there at punt returner because Sammy isn't reliable and has muffed a couple of key punts in his career.

answer to return punts. He may not have been the culprit tonight, but Sammy has proven to be an ineffective punt returner. I miss the days of CJ and Jacoby.

Sammy has never had a meaningful punt return in his career and he has jeopardized games because he doesn't field the ball well as a punt returner.
Adam has done a great job all year long.

This has nothing to do with Sammy. This is more about Coach Swinney liking players who are underachieving like himself when he played at Alabama. The difference is Alabama does not play two star players in critical or crunch time situations. If Swinney wants our program to be in the top five level, he needs to examine the players that he is putting on the field.

He didn't muff the second one either. He tried get something going on the return instead of a fair catch and he fumbled. His bad, but that was his ONLY mistake of the game. Racist? Please ...

Agreed. We gave up 14 points due to his turnovers, and they also helped to swing momentum to their favor. What he was doing out there on the last punt, I have no idea. He needs to have that role taken away for the rest of the year.

The ball hit him right in the chest. Yeah, he would have had to make the catch in traffic, but he is expected to make that catch. I don't want to sound like I hate the guy in general or anything. He has been a solid WR and PR man for us, but his play tonight was horrible, and helped swing the game in SCAR's favor.

I didn't think Bryant touched him. I'll have to go back and look at that. Either way, the ball did hit right off his chest. He should have caught it.

He could have let the ball hit the ground in that situation. He did not have to catch the ball.

....and the coaches! There was at least two fumbles stripped from Humphries (2nd return) and Tajh. Coaches job is to have players expect hands coming down for the ball.

Bryant arrives simultaneous to the catch and his right arm flails across Adam's face and eyes and perhaps even hits him. Bryant totally caused the punt muff.
Instead of a tie ball game with possession on our own 37, we give them 1st and 10 in our territory leading to an easy score.
If anyone is to blame for the game getting out of hand early, it's not Adam Humphries, but Martavis Bryant.

Hump's entire body was moving when the ball arrived due to the impact of Bryant.
I attribute the fumble on the other return to Hump but that's the first time I remember him losing a fumble since he started playing here.

Not sure why we even bother putting someone back there to catch the ball. Just get out of the way and let the offense do their job. Nothing good has come out of punt or kick return this year.
