Response from Columbia Chamber of Commerce concerning my

Nov 28, 2017, 3:31 PM

letter to them.
"Dear Master Sergeant Smith, thank you for your note and sharing your feedback with the Columbia Chamber. I regret you had an unpleasant experience in our fine City. I too had heard that some of our fans were less than hospitable and it was upsetting to those of us who are proud to call Columbia home. It is particularly upsetting to me as I have lived here all my life, graduated from USC and have spent many years on the win loss side of the Carolina Clemson Palmetto Classic Rivalry. Whether we won or lost, we always held our head high and focused on “next year”. When we receive negative feedback such as yours, unfortunately none of us are winners. I know that we had thousands of good fans in the stands and I wish you were writing to tell us about the good experience rather than a disappointing one.

We shared the information with our President and CEO and he will share it with Dr. Pastitides, President of USC. I will also share it with Mayor Benjamin’s office so he is also aware. Hopefully, we can promote avoidance of similar behavior in the future.

We pride ourselves on being the “most military friendly community in America” and even though you were here for a non-military event, we always want you to feel welcomed. I hope you and your family will visit us again and not let this event paint the picture for our community. Thank you for your feedback and for your service to our great Country.

If I can be of assistance to you in the future, please feel free to contact me directly. Best wishes for a happy holiday season. Warm regards, Susan"

The only good thing to ever happen in Cola was Gen Sherman's urban revitalization efforts.

On another note would be interested to see the text of your letter.

I work in Columbia for an engineering firm and know Susan well. She is genuinely a nice person and does care about the City treating people and the military well. I know a lot of TNetters call Columbia a cesspool etc but like all places there are good people here. Susan is the City’s military Liason to Fort Jackson and works hard to keep the base in tact through potential BRAC closures.

So if you seriously wrote a letter and got this response, then you have issues yourself. Change your handle to snowflake!!! Geez, another person offended. I too went there and encountered jerks....I chose to deal with those jerks directly. Writing a letter to the chamber ain’t gonna solve nothing.

in the head from batteries being thrown is two different things. Believe me when I tell you I can deal with with jerks directly...I've been doing it all my life. The Chamber can do something if it sees that the economy if its town is going to take a hit.

Irrational you say? This is not new, from 2015 below.

http://www.thestate.com/sports/college/acc/clemson-university/article46271015.html

“When we walk into that stadium and I see lighters or batteries, just cans and stuff being thrown at players, I was just like ‘Wow, this is something else,’” he said. “Then the next year that we went there, I guess my sophomore year, just the same thing. It’s just a constant reminder that this is a real deal type of thing and you better be ready.”

Any evidence of these batteries besides a quote from a Clemson player before a game?

Nov 29, 2017, 12:15 PM

https://www.columbiachamber.com/contact/

that my family and I had traveled to the game and was disappointed with the actions of the fans, security, and the University. Since we came from out of town, we had to spend money on lodging, transportation, food, etc. Worrying about the safety of my family, we would never go to another game nor visit Columbia...which turns into lost economy for the city.
