I'd love to be in his district. I'd do everything I can to get him defeated next election.

He is part owner of a restaurant in West Ashley, served well and fairly on Chas city council, and has been a pretty good representative to the state senate. I don't know if he is gloating or relieved that it wasn't a coot. But does it matter?
Guys, its embarrassing that something we hold sacred was desecrated by a "fan." If the roles were reversed we'd be both relieved and laughing our ##### off too. Just saying.

his name in the paper before today. I am not a fan of Haley, but maybe she and Sheheen, as well, can target him.

be the next Mayor of Charleston. Ask our lobbyists, they will tell you he is a much bigger supporter of Clemson in the legislature than Haley (although not as strong as Sheheen). Biggest fault is his wannabe obsession with Tar Heel basketball...

Leon is supposed to be the next mayor of Charleston once

Joe Riley finally gives it up. His more centrist politics are not bad for a Democrat (and Democrats run Charleston), but he knows not one thing about football. He is a College of Charleston boy who went to USC Law back in the day when they couldn't give away Gamecock tickets to law students. That said, Leon is much more of a supporter of Clemson University in the legislature than some Clemson graduates have been (Nikki Haley). My biggest fault with Leon is that he is one of those ridiculous bandwagon Tar Heel hoops fans. My guess is that he had his heart set on going to Chapel Hill, couldn't get in, and settled for the College of Charleston (not nearly the first or last Charleston boy to have that happen to him)...

point was that Leon is somewhat more to the right than other Democrats in the legislature (particularly those in the Charleston delegation ). When Republicans like Harrell and Limehouse realized they couldn't beat him, they tried mightily to get him to switch with the promise of a new district with a suburban, more GOP feel. I think he might've switched had he not been waiting (mostly patiently) for Joe Riley to step aside so he could run for mayor. City politics in Charleston is dominated by the Dems and the rest of the county is swinging their way too (Obama carried Charleston County twice even though Reagan and George W. Bush had also done so).
