Redshirt possible???

Feb 7, 2018, 6:13 PM

For any of our new recruits? I know it's not really Dabo's thing. But with the insane amount of talent coming in, it's probably a little tempting. If we don't redshirt, then I don't see anyone on our schedule beating us, even if Clemson doesn't bring their A game.

Yes, redshirts will happen.

Yes, that IS Dabo’s thing (not sure why you think otherwise).

And finally, why would a bunch of freshmen come in and push out our veteran team for starting spots? That’s literally never happened, anywhere.

Not to be harsh bud, but none of your post makes any sense.

I think we have 8 red shirts this year that will join the team for the Spring Game.

About 10% of the 85 scholarships available.

Seems about right.

I'm not sure why

you seem to have an issue with me, but I answered your post in the other section. But I was concerning myself mostly with the Five star talent. Perhaps I should have clarified.

All for one and one for all.

I am very glad

That we signed a 6' 4" wide receiver. I believe we will find a place for him before the opening game with Furman

Didn't we sign two 6'4" WR's ?

He does seem a little harsh there Ironcat. Must have been a bad day at work or home.

Aww, that’s sweet. It was a tough day pumpkin, thanks for asking.

But no. I’m just a sarcastic ###. No need to dig deeper.

I give you grief, but don’t care.

You’re the one that took the time to send me an aggressive private message.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

Wasn't Clelin a redshirt?

Of our projected starters

Feb 7, 2018, 11:28 PM

Ferrell, Joseph, Muse, Falcinelli, and whoever starts at TE will have been red-shirts I believe.

Shaq Smith is a good example of a recent 5-Star Red Shirt

Feb 7, 2018, 8:38 PM

But, he’s an exception. Generally a kid who has a strong potential for early NFL departure would not be Red Shirted.

Now days it seems kinda pointless to redshirt with most kids leaving after 3 years. That means you only get 2 playing years out of them after that redshirt. I know Clelin, Christian, Mitch and Austin came back but they are rare exceptions to that.

We have a few project guys that will definitely redshirt, like Braden Galloway and McFadden. But I think most of the guys will be available on game day.

Feb 8, 2018, 12:04 PM

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to waste a year and redshirt them if they will probably leave in 3 years anyway, so the highly ranked guys usually play. But there's always exceptions.

Clelin will be a RS Junior this year. Had to take a redshirt after tearing up his knee as a true freshman

Re: Redshirt possible???

It's not so much "not Dabo's thing" as it is the reality of the level we are recruiting at. We are recruiting players who expect to be in the NFL in 3 years. 50 - 75% of our incoming class probably has this expectation and goal.

If these kids are even close to playing anywhere on the field at anytime in their Freshman year there is no point in red-shirting them because they are likely gone after 3 years regardless. It's better to make use of the talent, even in limited snaps than to have them burn one of the three years they'll be here.
