Recruiting class size

Jun 22, 2018, 10:48 AM

I read more and more 2019 being a 27-30 person class. Why not hold onto scholarships and make the next classes larger (think past two years of 15 and 17 signees)?

By holding onto scholarships, you're essentially operating like you've been penalized by the ncaa and doing that is asking for depth issues down the road.

Which is what he did in 2018.

This Freshman class is going to be great but the roster management could have been better. Obviously Johnson was a late transfer and that other guy was a "special" case, but we were still well under the cap before them.

Yeah I wasn't gonna bring 2018 up but it sure seems like it was mismanaged a bit.

No.

We will probably go over 30 in this class. Those that can't contribute immediately will REDSHIRT and gain a year of experience and conditioning in our system. A redshirt is just as good if not better than adding a (reasonably) higher rated prospect to the next class.

Take a look at the kind of players they are bringing in... lots of raw, underdeveloped potential.

This class size has always been 27-30 so that has not changed. Why do you think next year will be a small class?

32 is the number i have in mind

Jun 22, 2018, 11:39 AM

looking at what we have (17 commits) and our high priorities from here on out I see us at 32.

We still have a few 3* coming but our high priority guys are the ones we are after now. Guys like:

Booth 5* DB
Ngata 4* WR
Dobbs 5* OT
Wright 5* OT
Tyler Davis 4* DT
Tuitele 5* DT
Travon Walker 5* DT
Bentley 4* LB

some 3* guys we are still targeting:

Lytle 3* LB
Battle 3* DB
Philips 3* S
Thornton 3* S
Hornibrook 3* OT

Some under the radar guys we are targeting

Dawson 3* OT
Hanson 3* OG ---commited to VT that's why put under the radar
Enoch Jackson 3* DT

I've seen some stuff that suggests that the staff has moved on from Hanson, it seems like he's firm in commitment to VT. We'll probably wind up with at least one other developmental OL prospect not on there as well. After only taking two OL last year we really should probably take 5 but definitely have to take 4.

At this point seems it seems like a long shot but I think Clay Webb is supposed to be coming to visit again and his mom seems to be very high on Clemson. He would be a HUGE get after missing on Harry Miller.
