Ray Ray McCloud & Artavis Scott: Compare and Contrast ...

Jul 22, 2014, 11:52 PM

They seem to have very similar physical attributes and skill sets.

What do you think?

Scott was smart enough to be a Tiger...Ray Ray not so much***

Ray Ray is probably going to commit to Florida....

but will also probably change his mind if Muschamp gets fired.

Hopefully, for his sake, it won't be too late and his other top schools still have a spot for him.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

very similar, scott is built more like a rb with better balance. Ray ray is a little more fluid and catches the ball a little better.

Let's be serious here..Ray-ray is good but catches the ball better than scott? You can't be serious. Scott has hands for days and definitely the better pass catcher but McCloud may be the better athlete.

McCloud is probably better in space

Scott might be a little bit more of a sprinter and a natural WR.

Here's my assessment:

Sizewise, Artavis is bigger and stronger. He's 5'11 and 185 vs Ray-Ray's 5'9 175 pounds. This shows in their styles of play. Both are incredibly quick, but play differently. In fact, I think I'd compare their styles to two Clemson greats who both had incredible quickness but played a different type of game: Sammy & CJ.

Like Sammy, Artavis Scott will use stiff cuts followed by a huge burst of acceleration to get his yards. He's a strong guy, so the idea is to pair his quickness and strength to force the defender into arm-tackles. For guys of that size, strength and quickness, arm-tackles are highly ineffective.

However Ray-Ray, like CJ, is more likely to dazzle with a shake of the hips or a stutter step that freezes the defender, before using his burst to blow by him. The idea is to not be touched at all. The quick changes of speed & direction also increase the chances of defenders getting in each other's way, causing "pileups".

These styles aren't mutually exclusive, and you'll certainly see some great jukes from Artavis and some quick North/South cuts from Ray-Ray, but this is what I've gathered from watching their tapes. Both are equally as versatile and can be used in any number of places on the field.
