Ray-Ray McCloud

Sep 19, 2016, 9:10 PM

Why in the world is he not returning kicks ? Please get fuller off of it .

Read this on another Clemson website

"Sophomore returner Ray-Ray McCloud has 152 yards on six punt returns this season, an average of 25.3 per try (including his 74-yarder on which he dropped the ball before the goal line to nullify a touchdown.)

McCloud’s yardage and average return each rank second in the nation. The 152 yards are also 89 more than Clemson had all last year (27 returns, 63 yards.)"

I'm pretty sure Scott hasn't been on the KOR since Auburn. Its been Fuller and Feaster the last two games

I know that attempting to gain yards on returns are a very important part of special teams play. But having the surest hands fielding the punts and kicks are the most important by far, wouldn't you agree!!!

Maybe? Our sure handed guys fumbled too.

At some point you have to take a little risk for a possible reward. A good punt returner can gain you alot of yards. Especially when teams start making bad punts OOB attempting to keep the ball away from them.

To hazard a guess, it may have something to do with blockers. Ray Ray is super shifty and excels at making guys miss in the open field. Perfect for punt returns as he doesn't usually have the benefit of blockers. Kick returns benefit from a wall of blockers and may be more in line with a traditional RB with some vision and patience.

Hell if I know. Maybe he just can't catch an end over end ball.
