Ran into Kelly Bryant at GSP last night

Dec 6, 2019, 10:39 AM

On my way back from Nashville, I saw who looked like Kelly at the baggage claim. It was very late and tired from traveling, I walked past him and saw a Missouri name tag on his backpack confirming my suspicion. I held up a peace sign indicating the # 2 to which he smiled. I said what’s up KB2 and he replied yessir yessir! It was strange seeing the Mizzou swag with several people standing around with Clemson apparel on, but he was very nice about it. Although I don’t like being called “sir”, I do appreciate the well mannered response. I wish him much luck in his future endeavors.

You know that’s the thing about it. He stood out because he was so much taller than everyone else waiting on their bags. My first thought was I wonder if that dude plays basketball, but quickly realized it was Kelly. And he could knock me over because I’m certainly not a tall drink of water like him! ??

Cool story...I will always pull for him too

Dec 6, 2019, 10:42 AM

So I don't guess you asked him if he was going to go all scorched earth on Dabo?

I am always happy when someone calls me "Sir" and does not add "you are making a scene".

Still, cool story. Still a Clemson brother.

When someone mentions to me that they do not like to be called sir or ma'am, I reply to them that I call my young children sir and ma'am.

I am also a coach and reply to my players with "yes sir" or "no sir" all the time.

I use the terms as a sign of respect to the person I am speaking, and I do not think of them as something that should only be said when someone reaches a certain age.

You preference is your preference, but I just wanted to provide a different perspective on how some other people use the term sir.

Dec 6, 2019, 10:55 AM

Yeah I get it and that’s why I said he was “ well mannered”. I actually say yessir and ma’am too, but I don’t like being reminded that I don’t look 21 anymore. In my mind I most certainly do!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Ran into Kelly Bryant at GSP last night

Dec 6, 2019, 10:58 AM

That was my different perspective.

I say sir to many people who I know for a fact are only 21 or younger.

You can just choose to assume that anyone who gives you the "sir" label does the same.

Good Manners

Dec 6, 2019, 12:33 PM [ in reply to Re: Ran into Kelly Bryant at GSP last night ]

Our three kids know the seven magic phrases by heart.

They recited them every morning, and although they are now in their 20s and 30s we joked about it over Thanksgiving.

They still know them and use them:
Yes sir
No Sir
Yes ma'am
No ma'am
Please
Thank you
You're welcome

Being old as dirt, I find it odd when young cashiers/clerks, etc seem to be uncomfortable when I call them sir or m'am. I was raised to show respect for everyone with yessir, nosir, yesmam, nomam, regardless of age, sex, race, etc, and especially position or rank in their job. I actually feel the need to apologize to those people and explain that how I was raised, and meant no offense.

When I was in the hospital recently, the people that cleaned the rooms seemed surprised at the respect I showed them. They said people seldom did that to them. I found that odd.

I guess everyone looks at things differently.

I’ve met KB, and he seems to be a great young man. I didn’t like how he left Clemson, but he was young and very emotional. Wish him nothing but the best in life.

Yea, I've met him a couple of times and he's always seemed like a good guy. I agree - did not like one bit how he handled the breakup, but he's still a kid I guess - after getting his teeth kicked in the last 3 months, maybe he's learned some humility.

Anyway, it'll be nice to see him and Feaster reunited with their teammates on the sideline tomorrow night - I'm sure they'll be glad to be back and exchange some war stories.

Isn't KB from Powdersville? Maybe he's going to Charlotte, but can we connect the dots of him flying into GSP and bring on the sideline at the ACCCG?

Just saw where his high school Alma Mater, Wren high plays Myrtle Beach in the state championship game tonight at 6:30 in Columbia. Maybe he’s attending that instead?

Keep kidding yourself. You wouldn't have the guts to ask a snarky question like that of a 6'4", 225-lb fit young man.

And if you did, he might just ask you where ignorant, big-mouthed fans keep their championship rings.

But KB wouldn't do that, because he's a Clemson man.

KB earned plenty of rings while at Clemson.
2016 National Championship and 3 ACC Championship rings.
