Disagree. I think he stuck to what he believed regardless of what his party was pushing. You don't have to like it, but he spoke from the heart, always.

McCain was a political opportunist par excellance in DC. He made a name for himself there by stabbing his conservative colleagues in the back repeatedly.
He went through a lot in his life. I respect him for that. But he is not near the top of the list of respected veterans on that score, because of how he lived his life once he was in DC. He was a petty, sad man in those DC years.

It's not that. Its more that he could not be counted on to do what he said he would do, and was always an opportunist. He was a persistent DC backstabber of the GOP. Which is the ONLY reason the Left revere this man now otherwise they'd hate him and spit in his face too just like they did all the other returning veterans.

I feel bad for you. You say "He made a name for himself there by stabbing his conservative colleagues in the back repeatedly" but never stop to ask yourself whether or not the conservatives deserved that vote. To me, "turning your back on your party" often times means sticking to your core beliefs even though the party in which you most identify with doesn't fall in line with your core beliefs. If you truly believe in a cause, why would you ever kneel to the party line? Isn't that what America is all about? Freedom of choice? How can you, as a true American, ever stand for a politician voting with a status quo that they don't believe in "because the party told me to"?? That seems contrary to every value our entire society is built on.
To me, while I didn't always agree with him, McCain was a good man. Based on your posts, you're "a good lil boy", a dog who just does what he's told with no independent thought of his own. It's certainly not too late though, if you decide to think for yourself at some point you can become a man. Until then, you sound like a coward.

Which is the conservative party? You have liberal and conservative. Always have and always will. Goes beyond the US even. The two ideologies are as old as democracy really.
So, who represents conservatives? Whoever it is, it's not John McCain.
The likes of John McCain, and his position in the GOP and in the Congressional power structure, explains EVERYTHING about why our current President is Donald Trump. Russians notwithstanding. But that can't be the message, so Russians.

I think people are overblowing how much he didn't vote with his party...even with his "enemy" Trump, he still voted with him 83% of the time, and something like 87% of his entire career was voting with his party, which isn't all that much lower than the 91% average.

He would have been voted President. He wasn't. He was a DC opportunist who might would have become President had he maintained the honor he exhibited in the military. He didn't. That sadly taints that portion of whatever legacy he leaves.

From things I have read about him as a younger guy he was a prick and everyone hated. He was a silver spoon guy that thought the world revolved around him. He was also a poitical hack. That said its always sad when someone passes. Prayers for the family and hopefully a cure for the big C.

Winning the illegal alien vote in CA doesnt count towards the Presidency. Also, the rules are...you have to win the electoral college, not a popular vote. This is not majority rule. It's a republic. So, technically, Hillary didn't come close.
