Question for the golfers

Jul 9, 2019, 9:30 PM

What is a somewhat hidden gem golf guy’s trip in the southeast? Driveable (5hrs and under from Greenville)

We’ve done the Hilton Head, Myrtle, Pawleys, Charleston, etc trips.

Sea Island might be a bit much.

Need a good mix of restaurants and nightlife (not really clubs but decent bars) but decent golf and clubhouse once we get rained out. Lol

River town like (at its decent peak before storm
Damages).

TIA.

Why not give that a try over a few days?

Yeah, hate to pump bama but salty is correct. Well worth the tour. Not sure how the pinehurst area is anymore. The golf is great but not sure about the nightlife.

Honestly, imo can’t go wrong with the Clemson area and keowee but you may want a getaway.

Santee was a great destination 30+ yrs ago but couldn’t tell you about it now.

I know you said you’d done the beaches tour but if you like the coast you can’t go wrong around sunset beach nc. Tons of inexpensive good courses and you have calabash and little river for nightlife.

Just a little past 5 hours but TPC Sawgrass is a great trip. Two courses on the property including the championship course. Jekyl Island Georgia has multiple courses and is less expensive and closer.

Go to Pinehurst if you have never been. They have 30+ courses in the area, and you do not have to play Pinehurst #2 or other courses at that resort to have great golf. Both Pine Needles and Mid-Pines are great and fun to play Donald Ross courses. The Pinehurst area business community caters to golfers, and everyone there loves golf. You won't likely get a group in front of you (like at Myrtle Beach) that is playing one of their 5 rounds of golf for the year that takes the 5 or more hours to play.

^^^This is the correct answer

Mid Pines and Pine Needles are fantastic, Tobacco Road isn't too far away if you want to venture out of the Pinehurst/Southern Pines one of the days.

Good restaurants and bars too, they just opened a brewery at the resort with great beers and food.

Agree with Pinehurst.

Another option is Reynolds Plantation in Ga.

And if you haven’t been to Primland, do it!

More of resort areas, but cool spots.
