Question about the “terminate Obamacare” thing

Oct 22, 2020, 9:51 PM

From what I’ve heard, Trump says he wants to eliminate Obamacare then create something better.... Is his plan to cancel it, then start working on something new or having something ready to go as soon as the ACA is repealed? The way they have been wording this there’s going to be a huge lapse in coverage for people while they decide on something new.

Ok.... That’s not good, then. Have a plan in place first, then I’ll be ok with it.***

They had a plan then but the Dem. took control of the house and that plan died on the vine.

And that’s what blows, if it’s not your party that does it

You’re going to strike it down and the hope one or two rogues votes from the other party comes into play. Maybe when the US population was 30,000,000 in 1850 a two party system was fine. Now that’s it’s near 350,000,000, two parties isn’t even enough to represent the true totality of the US population.

with so many people, there is no need for universal healthcare since it is only 12-20 million that need coverage, cheaper to just buy them policies and leave everyone else alone

They have no plan. They never will. Obamacare was actually modeled after republican ideas.

Yes, the case the administration is bringing to the SC would nullify the ACA and all of its insurance regulations and provisions. There is no plan in place. Millions would lose coverage and insurance underwriters could do what they used to do, improve profits (not saying that’s bad) by excluding expensive enrollees.

There is not an inkling of a strategy to account for this.

Republicans had over 10 years to “replace” including

Two years from Jan 2017 to Jan 2019 where they controlled the WH, Senate and House.

I’m not an expert but my understanding:
If the ACA is fully overturned by the Supreme Court, then there is “uncertainty” surrounding existing policies and pre- existing conditions. That’s not saying coverage immediately ends for pre-existing conditions _ but lifetime caps and pricing structure may change. There is likely a window of time that government could develop and sign legislation that could “save” pre-existing” condition coverage. The longer that takes, the more risk that individuals with pre-existing conditions could be impacted by insurance coverage policy changes.

Expanded Medicaid coverage may also be impacted dependent on State.
