Question about our helmets........

This is a serious question (although some of you will think it sounds stupid).

Why do we have two or more brands of helmets? I notice some say "Schutt" on the back and others say "Clemson" on the back? Are some for players who have concussion problems, for example?

Different companies have different models. My guess is our Equipment staff, as well as staffs across the country, order from multiple companies because different players prefer the look and fit of certain helmets. It gives the team more variety, and makes sure each player has a comfortable, proper fitting helmet. Pretty common in College and High School (don't know about NFL) to see helmet brands vary from player to player.

Not sure if this applies to Clemson, but in high school, we had different brands based on the size and face mask style.

I don't know if it was a financial thing, or the fact that maybe the linemen style facemask would not fit on a "preferred" type of Schutt helmet (what the WRs used).

That used to be (still is?) a logo used by Schutt on the helmets.

It was always funny to think of it like "Oh Schutt!!"

Some just do fit different and its players choice and players choose facemasks most of the time and I think if its any brand other than shutt they cover up the brand with the "Clemson" rubber piece.

The reason fo different helmets is simply player comfort. some helmets are wider at the top than the bottom and viceversa. Each player finds a type of helmet they like and use it. I can tell you that clemson spares no expense on the equipment that they use.
