Absolutely ... I would pull for them every game except Clemson and even then, I'd pull for my kid to play well in a losing cause.

Question

Feb 3, 2011, 12:15 PM

If your son wanted to play for South Carolina, would you wear garnet?

I don't have a kid so I can't say what I'd do, but it would be dang hard to imagine.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-74tiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No doubt, I'd be supportive

Feb 3, 2011, 12:27 PM

And I CERTAINLY wouldn't be crowing about it to reporters.

Thats my real issue with it. Keep your mouth shut, and if asked say you support your son and will back his decision 100%. Thats it.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Question

Feb 3, 2011, 2:03 PM [ in reply to Question ]

If Carolina offered to pay my kid's way to school I would welcome it. I would not, however, wear garnet nor will I pay a red cent to the University of Scared Coots for my kids to go there. As I have told my wife, if our kids want to go somewhere other than Clemson they can pay for it however they can make it work.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A little South Carolina hospitality and she'll be on our

Feb 3, 2011, 12:16 PM

side...you can't blame someone for being a fan of the team near them for their entire lives. Incredible fortitude by the kid to still go with what he wanted to do. Not many kids would have done that.

Re: A little South Carolina hospitality and she'll be on our

Feb 3, 2011, 12:57 PM

That's the ONE thing to take away from this post. It obviously took a lot of fortitude and conviction on Tony's part to stay committed to Clemson. Bodes well for his future.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This may be the most absurd thing I've heard in a long time

Feb 3, 2011, 12:16 PM

You have to be kidding me, right?
You're pulling for the opposing team to beat your own kids team?

I get it if you wanna be a Criminole fan for the other 10 games of the year, but when Clem/FSU play, you don't have the intestinal fortitude to support your son's success?

Tony, I heard your father died at a young age, you're obviously been thru a lot. You will have 85,000 + always supporting you in DV.

Gonna make senior night rather interesting, eh?

Ms. Steward, wow. Just wow.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Recruit Update: Steward's mom: "I'm still a Seminole, but I'll support him"

Feb 3, 2011, 12:22 PM

This situation is completely different from Ann Bowden's. Her husband coached at one and her son at the other, so her loyalty was legitimately divided. As a parent, you pull for your child's school. I just cannot believe that this woman will actually be on the Florida State side, wearing garnet, while her son is playing for the Tigers. That would just be pitiful. I know so many people who are a fan of one school, but when their child goes to another school they flip -- at least when the two teams play each other. That is the way it should be. Now, having said that, I can't imagine how I would feel if it happened to me. I like to think I would do the right thing.
