Quaterback Upgrade
Feb 3, 2014, 9:28 PM

I've been over and over this in my mind and dare not ever speak a word of it,but I can't hold back any longer. I loved Tajh Boyd just as much as the rest of Tiger Nation, but I think that whoever wins the quaterback job this year will be an upgrade for us. I know that Tajh set all kind of records, but he always looked nervous in the pocket while doing so,and never seemed to get past his first read. He also stared down his reciever a lot. I'm just thinking the next guy just might be an upgrade at the quaterback position. At least I hope so. What say you guys?

I agree with you to an extent

Tajh wasn't perfect but Cole and Kelly won't be either. Unfortunately Tajh's flaws sometimes magnified our other offensive flaws and it snowballed. Hopefully the new Tiger offense can compliment whatever weaknesses Chad or Stoudt bring to the table.

He just had mental blocks that made him too inconsistent(Scar, FSU game, some crowds would get in his head too)

Been saying that for awhile. Boyd threw a great great deep ball but he was average at the rest of his game.

Agree, I don't see a drop off at qb next year.

As a Gamecock, I have similar feelings in regards to Clowney

David Johnson will be a much better DE next season than Clowney ever was.
Clowney just didn't have the work ethic needed to be a great DE.

have gotten spoiled. I'd love for the next guy to come in and raise the bar, but there's almost certainly going to be some early struggles and learning experiences and some people on this board are going to realize that what we had was a lot better than they thought.

All these questions about whether Tajh was the best, perfect, could have been this or that....
Will anyone forget the punishment he took during last year's Peach Bowl to LSU?
4th and 16?
How about when he came in against South Florida and almost brought us back?
The smile on his face during the Orange Bowl ceremony?
The kind of man he grew to be?
Who cares if he is/ will be remembered as the best - he played for us and that is something that won't be forgotten. He played his heart out and was someone we all wanted to see succeed and is someone we can all be proud to say that he played here

Kelly or Stoudt can take the hits that Boyd endured. Boyd was carted off the field three years ago during the UNC game, but that was the only time he looked injured.

Tajh was a good player and an even better person, but I think you might be right. Most people forgot that before the 2011 season it wasn't even a given that Tajh was going to be the starting QB and that many people wanted him benched after the 1st half of his 1st game in 2011.
I don't think an inexperienced QB will be an upgrade, but I don't think we will see a big overall drop off at the position.

I do agree with you. Boyd was great for Clemson. He did everything the right way. But I think we will be better at quarterback. Now, there may be a few bumps along the way, just from the new qb getting used to the experience but in the end, yes, I think it will be an upgrade.
