QB Depth behind DW4
Dec 6, 2016, 9:59 AM

So after DW4 leaves this year, do we really carry 5 QBs on the roster going forward?
What is the future of Zerrick Cooper and Tucker Israel? Will they just be calling in plays their entire time at Clemson? I figure Chase Brice and Hunter Johnson will get their time on the field...

Have you ever seen film on cooper? Kid is a stud and will most likely start next year. He will have a year in the system that will give him an edge over the two incoming freshman.

So does this mean KB will likely look to transfer?? Just trying to wrap my head around the 5 scholarship QBs next season, that are all younger than seniors. Not a bad problem for fans though haha

be the frontrunner after the spring. Closest to Dwat in arm strength, size and mobility. Johnson could be 2nd on the depth chart but will be hard for a true frosh to do so, imho.

Yes, we really do.
We already know Kelly has earned the starting position for Spring 2017 but it's up in the air from that point on.
If potential / stars meant anything, the depth chart would be:
Hunter Johnson Zerrick Cooper Chase Brice Kelly Bryant Tucker Israel
There's just too many variables unaccounted for until a young man gets in campus though. The transition to college is easier for some than others, both academically & athletically. Then there's learning the Clemson system. Playing quarterback as a true freshman at an elite level is an arduous task. Time will tell!

A couple of those guys may transfer if they don't start

I certainly can't see Cooper staying around unless he's at least the backup next year. Brice and Harper will be true freshman, so I doubt they'd go anywhere unless another guy really locks down the starting job and prevents them from having a chance to start for at least a couple years.

I believe the starting QB position is up for grabs. Looking at Dabo's hesitation to start DW4 as a freshman makes me believe the starter will be one of Bryant, Cooper, or Israel. The Tigers have a lot of talent at the position. It will be interesting to watch who ends up on top.

IMO it will either be Z Coop or Hunter Johnson Both have the mobility, arm strength and deep ball accuracy to run our offense but the intangibles and decision making abilities are what the coaches will look for. The obvious nod goes to Z Coop since he will have an extra year on Johnson but it will be whoever grasps the playbook the best. We will again be STACKED at WR so that will be to our benefit. Also I'm not a coach our anything but I don't see Kelly Bryant or Tucker Israel either being the answer as Bryant has a lot of athletic ability but lacks in many other areas and Israel lacks in the physical ability area to be able to be a legitimate threat in the read/option scheme

Just enjoy him while he's still here b/c the dropoff will be

coming. Its hard to find gamers like Deshaun. We will have talented guys but I don't know what type of personalities these guys have. I know from those i've seen so far on the field. It ain't close to what we have had over the past 3 years when Deshaun played. Just be prepared. WE don't have a real RB behind Gallman either. Feaster could be that but he didn't take the bull by the horns this year so I can't really project him to be the one who offsets bad QB play. Luckily our defense will be pretty good I think b/c we return some guys who've played alot of snaps but offensively. We have WR's but i just hope we can find a QB to lead them. Maybe its Cooper or Hunter J but I don't see it with KB or TI or whoever else we have back there. We shall see though.
When i say drop off understand that we all know we aren't gonna go undefeated so dropoff may mean a 3 loss team but maybe we exceed expectations. But deshaun we can all agree was a once in a lifetime type leader/personality in those crunchtime situations especially.

Don't get to far ahead of yourself. You've got to give Israel and Cooper some respect. More time in the system. They should be ahead of the two youngsters come spring. I think one out of those two will be our starting qb. Both have the arm talent.

KB's size with Tucker's cannon and moxy

You would have about 75% to DW4 2014. Man, we are going to miss that cat like crazy.
National Title should 'Tide' us over until Hunter or Lawrence does their DW4 impression.

Just my own opinion, for what it's worth.

I expect the staff will go into the spring with Kelly Bryant as the leader. And give him every opportunity to earn the starting job, and that may even head into the fall if he's making any ground at all. I don't expect a move (if it does) before June of 2017.
With that said, I expect Bryant to get plenty of push from Cooper, and new comer, Hunter Johnson. I can see Johnson playing a simular role as DeShaun Watson in his freshman year. And eventually claiming that starting role.
The question is, where does Tucker play into all this. Right now, I just can't see a role for him.
