Putting the JL Witchhunt on the backburner, what are

Apr 29, 2014, 1:11 PM

everyone's thoughts on the 8 vs. 9 game conference schedules.

There's actually a pretty decent ACC Blog post by HD outlining the member schools' AD's views thereon:

http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/69876/ad-opinions-mixed-on-acc-scheduling

I really like this quote by D-Rad: "Instead of adding another league game, Radakovich suggested other schools beef up their nonconference schedules.

'If they don’t have that rival at the end of the year, then they need to schedule a college football playoff equity conference game on a home-and-home basis,” he said. “If they don’t have that rival, they need to schedule two, but they can do that based on when Notre Dame rolls on and off their schedule.'"

Seems like FSU and Clemson, the two schools most poised to make it into the playoff in the next few years, are the only ones willing to go out and schedule the OOC games to get there.

I like the idea of staying at 8 games, keeping USuCk on (obviously), and continuing to schedule OOC home-and-homes with SEC/other BCS conference schools to beef up the resume. I'd love to do a home-and-home with UF or a school like Penn St or Oklahoma.

I agree. Eight games gives us more flexibility and less control by the ACC which is not exactly our best ally.

Look on the bright side.

We would have one more chance at Ed Cunningham calling our games per year.

Would we be willing to add a 9th game if it's Notre Dame?

Apr 29, 2014, 1:24 PM

What if we became a permanent match up for Notre Dame? That would make for some epic games.

Why does everybody love Notre Dame so much

they're an underperforming shell of their former selves.

because of the ACC's relative lack of depth, adding an additional conference game may not in our best interest. Clemson needs more series like UGA and Auburn if we get in a SOS battle for the playoffs. ACC should limit the Div.1AA games to 1 per season and require a game from another major conference school. Clemson would be set w/ USC, but it would be in our best interest to add another home/away w/ an SEC/B10/B12 or P12 school.

One of the reasons the SEC teams have the records that they do is because of their weak out of conference scheduling. Granted they can't get out of their rivalry games but other than that, look at who they play. Alabama has a pathetic out of conference football schedule. It does not just reside in the football programs either. I believe the coots played 22 of their first 26 baseball games at home. I believe that is why they struggle at times on the road. 2 different teams, home and away.

part of that problem is you could have 6 or 5 home games

Apr 29, 2014, 2:18 PM [ in reply to Re: Putting the JL Witchhunt on the backburner, what are ]

Which could kill revenue for the school and possibly fan support for that year. The weaker D1AA opponent guarantee home games, which is the main focus, afaik.

But if giving up those games means getting into playoff spots, it might round itself out
