Good morning everybody. How was your weekend?

May 11, 2020, 7:49 AM

Friday night, didn't leave the house. I think we had spaghetti for supper.

Saturday, Went to Tractor Supply and a couple of grocery stores, still kinda weird but one worker at Ingles was carrying on about taking a cruise with mom this summer.

Sunday, quick hike up to the lookout that is close to the Dismal Trail and you can see Raven Cliff falls. Maybe next weekend we'll take the other trail and use that suspension bridge.

Friday - super early morning run. awesome pizza dinner from a new place. kids were good and they played as I mowed the grass.

Saturday - long run, kids were great, played inside most of the day as it was so crappy outside. Afternoon was nice, so we rode bikes to town and skipped rocks in the creek.

Sunday - good short run in the rain. church on computer. kids were good. long walk with wife and MIL and the kids in the park, was fun till raining again. Dinner menu is in the What for supper thread.

Volume of drinking: 4/10
Miles of running: 9/10
Quality of dinners: 10/10

Overall: 9/10, cooler weather knocks it down; just cant wait for Tuesday and consistent 70 degrees.

This mental exercise always helps wake me up on Mondays

May 11, 2020, 8:00 AM

Lemme see, Friday night, went to bed early. Saturday, woke up, cleaned the house (or my share anyway), went to Publix at the busiest time of the week, went to Bed, Bath/Beyond for three new pillows, came home from there and found fridge and freezer on the fritz. They were tripping the GFCI outlet. Made a mad rush to unbury the fridge and freezer from all the crap stacked on top. Pulled them out, found rat turds and chewed wires. Fixed that. Got them working again. Unloaded groceries. Cooked supper (Bacon wrapped italian sausage), had one bourbon, one scotch, and one beer, then went to sleep. Sunday woke up, washed clothes, finished washing bed sheets, cleaned the kitchen, went to Youtube church, sons gave wife mothers day cards, then left with kids after diaper changes, dressing, and lunch to go to see Gammy at the lake (she's isolated now). Made her week. Fixed her light bulb in her room, dumped rotten corn that had been in a bucket for years, treated her water, took out the garbage, brought in the mail, and hosed off her car. Took her outgoing mail and kids and mom sat on the porch and played. Came back home, wife of finished her 4-hour jacuzzi bath in peace, bounced her out the tub, she takes kids to visit her mom and sister, leaving me alone to fix a mojito (or three) and cook some good BBQ chicken (I had 2.5 hours to grill it right). Ate, went to bed. Actually ate, corrected a report, and went to bed.

Fri - Wife picked up Smokin Pig for dinner, The Grinch & popcorn, kids to bed, watched The Last Kingdom before we went to bed

Sat - Family met in-laws at Keowee State Park. Hiked, fished, ate lunch and headed back home.

Sun- church on youtubes, picked up Marco's and went to Mom's and played outside. Picked up some wood for my shop table project. I fired up the new grill for the first time and followed dark side of the moo®'s instructions with gas instead of charcoal and it was on fire. No ribeyes or strips to be found at supermarket so got t-bones and it was the best t-bone I ever eat. McJr said "this is better than legos"...not that he eats legos but the activity of consuming his steak was better than playing with legos.

Friday dropped wife at dr and since I can’t go in with her rode out to Tyger River Smart Farms for the weekly batch of hydroponic greens then picked up wife and Then we had driveway visits with 3 sets of friends I picked up lettuce for

Saturday masked up and braved the crowds at Fresh Market to pick up meal kits for both mothers and went to McDowells for hanging baskets. Delivered it all Saturday because both their retirement communities were on lockdown Sunday except for a no contact parade.

Sunday hung out and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

Re: Purty Dang Good

A small group of us homeboys camped down on the banks of the Combahee River. The redbreast weren't really turned on to spinners yet but were taking bait on the bottom. We caught some monster catfish on rod and reel and set lines. Spent a lot of time pulling homies bacon out of the fire. Most of them don't camp much and weren't overly prepared. Ha! The worst for some was the snoring of some others. I was careful to setup far enough away to avoid that. Owls, coyotes, woodpeckers, turkeys might have slightly interrupted my sleep but it was great. 10/10.

Addendum: A few near misses but no one got drunked and fell in the river or the fire. I threatened to tie a rope around a one. We managed to drag him to his cot when he passed out. He woke up the next morning like a hero and cooked a big breakfast. His tent mate was burnt out cause no sleep/snoring.

Not bad really. Mostly right before dark. Some annoying gnats at times. Various mayflies and stuff hatching out. Oh, the first guys there had a backpack sprayer and sprayed the area down with malathion...that probably helped!

How was the JO circle by the camp fire?

May 11, 2020, 8:29 AM [ in reply to Re: Purty Dang Good ]

Manhood Camping Firequest. Lookin' for a 100% for real bros to share/experience manhood in all its glory. This is for real, I don't want to waste my time or yours. 100% JO and manhood, no sugar added. I AM NOT GAY. Don't even think this is a sex thing, it's all about manhood.

Looking for bros to head into the woods and bond by fire, experience life as men once lived it, JO circle, and fire/vision quests.

THIS IS NOT A SEX THING.

Gonna need some basic things/skills, I don't want to be slowed down by fools:

- must be in reasonable shape, if you get winded walking then stay home
- Ed Hardy camping gear, it's really good gear and it's awesome
- desire to be a man among men
- not afraid to wield a blade
- crystal, I'm not sharing mine
- must be able to make a fire
- gloves
- a knowledge of native vegetation (knowledge of psychotropic fungus a plus)
- knowledge of modern music
- protective/splash resistant eye wear
- 5 - 10 of those clip things that rock climbers use

We are gonna need a mobile music device, ipod or something. I'm bringing the music for the firequests and visionquests, Nickleback's The Long Road. I only have it on CD, so I'll have my discman as a last resort, an ipod would be nicer. Just sayin'.

Dont' want to see"

- bad attitudes
- gay/homoerotic behavior, this is a manhood thing. I AM NOT GAY.
- #### rings, can't keep it up w/o help, you aren't gonna make it on this quest
- firearms, there's gonna be enough guns going off and spent shells to pick up
- the nerds/dorks/lames/and anyone less than 100% into manhood.

If you are serious, then I promise you this will be the trip of your life. It will change the way you think. I'm serious, and I AM NOT GAY. To see a group of bros being men, a JO circle by a camp fire. The charge/energy in the air. Crystals get jacked, no lie. You will slip into a different frame of mind, you will feel electric.

Last outing, we had a group that was so charged we attracted bears. It was no deal, nature knew man was in the forest, the crystals gave us the confidence to own those bears. I saw it, I was there.

100% SERIOUS, NO FAKERS

Friday: Home from work, messed around in the garage, watched a little TV and tried a new Jap place for takeout dinner. It was good not great, we got noodle and rice dishes but it's a yakitori place so i imagine the experience would be better if we were at the restaurant and order yakitori a la carte.

Saturday: Up early and cleared two more truckloads of the overgrown "natural area" behind the new house. How long can I keep calling it the "new house" by the way? We've been there maybe 6 weeks now. Helped WifeofAyejoe clear some more of the front bed. Donned a mask and made the wasted trip to Costco. No beef of any kind. No pork of any kind. Still managed to spend $200 on chicken and some frozen stuff. Dry rubbed and wrapped two shoulders that I had thawed out to smoke on Sunday. Air-fried wings for dinner. Franks Red Hot for me and Teriyaki glaze for the wife.

Sunday: Up early to get the smoker going and shoulders on the smoker at 06:30. Wifeof got up around 09:00 and wanted to go to the nursery for some plants for the front bed. Checked the temp on the shoulders and they were around 130° so they weren't going to take much more smoke anyway. Pulled them from the smoker, wrapped them and put them in the oven at 250°. Rode over to the nursery and the sign says closed for Mothers Day but the gate was open. Pulled in just to turn around and see people milling around inside. The owners were there watering and let us come in while they were there. Bought some stuff and headed back home with a stop at Ace and another to pickup lunch. Planted plants wife and basically helped her with whatever she wanted to do repotting other stuff etc. Pulled the shoulders out to rest in the cooler and started the taters for the tater salad. Pulled pork, tater salad and corn for dinner.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Where’s the new house?

May 11, 2020, 8:45 AM

Moved from West Ashley to Summerville mostly for Wifeof to be closer to work. Her commute from WA traveled Hwy 61 in the plantation district and it is a fairly dangerous road at the best of times with how close the trees are to the shoulder. Rainy or foggy or a gentle breeze blowing the wrong way and it is wreck city. So of course, as soon as we moved, she is now working from home.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hope it turns out to be a great move for y’all!

May 11, 2020, 8:50 AM

I’m doing the same, digging holes and planting shrubs/trees.
Had the irrigation and sod done by pros. I used to be a Master Gardener (used to be cause you have to do continuing ed to keep certification) so I’ve designed our landscape plan. Heavy on Japanese stuff.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thanks, we're very happy with the move so far.

May 11, 2020, 9:11 AM

Our immediate neighbors are great. Thew lot backs onto a green space/walking trail and eventually retention ponds so we shouldn't ever have houses behind us.

We have just had to put some of the decorating inside on hold because of retail closures. Still not sure when we'll try to venture out to shop for that stuff.

As far as gardening, I have a pretty good idea which end of the plant goes in the ground. That's about the extent of my knowledge. But my mom and FIL are long time gardeners so we have plenty of advice when needed. I'm sticking mostly to growing fresh herbs and letting the wife plan the rest while I help execute.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that's just a horrible road...

May 11, 2020, 9:58 AM [ in reply to Re: Where’s the new house? ]

did that commute into Charleston for many years. Not only are the huge trees RIGHT next to the road, there was a huge dropoff from the pavement to the dirt which would get you. Also, deer EVERYWHERE.
Saw many a nasty wreck on that stretch.

Day 61: THE CORONA VIRUS HOSTAGE SITUATION

May 11, 2020, 8:51 AM

Friday: Project bourbon was started at 3:30, completed sometime after midnight. Individual tasks completed during Project bourbon were the watching of mumbo78®'s suggestion of Brawl In Cell Block 99 on amazon Prime, and The Rolling Stones 1978 Live in Texas Some Girls tour film. If you're a fan of graphic Tarantino-style Grindhouse films, Brawl is your flick...Vince Vaughn like you've never seen him.

Saturday: Met with the current military commander of the hostage strike team General Laziness. General Laziness took a very wait and see attitude toward the morning, so drank coffee and waited to see. Finally decided to veer away from the General's plan and took a long hike with the pup. Came back and watched the Raquel Welch classic Fathom, ingested of the last homemade potato soup from the deep freeze, PBRed and watched the very Fargo-esque movie Blow The Man Down, then The Search For One-Eyed Jimmy. Just now realized how porn-esque watching those two movies sound back to back.

Sunday: Long hike with the pup, then Joonyer and his fiance brought us lunch from Luigi's. Had an excellent eggplant parm sandwich, visited with them while we ate, let the pups play. Then took the pup over to see RH Mom, hung out by the pool for a few hours and soaked up some sun and let the pup run free. Back home and watched the tail end of season 1 of Reckoning and then a handful of episodes of Dead To Me with the Mrs. and ate lunch leftovers for supper. Did little else the rest of the night until time to crash.

Aside from great visits with Joonyer & his soon-to-be, and RH Mom & RH Sis, the weekend was sadly uneventful and registered a 13.75/19 on the Covid scale. Another weekend without sports or actual live music of some sort could send me into a spiral of senseless mayhem and violence of the sort that teenagers commit after watching too many graphically violent video games.

May 11, 2020, 9:05 AM

Friday - celebrated littlest APM's black belt with Japanese take out and a nice Sapporo beer. Fell asleep in the recliner before 9pm.

Saturday - awesome day. Worked in da mawn and got a lot done. Walked the dog with the missus. Worked some mo'. Had lunch. Took the two youngest for a short hike. Came home. Dinner. Me and missus watched our current favorite show, Baptiste on PBS. Had some sects. Slept good once again.

Sunday - got up, kids gave the missus their gifts, walked the dog with the missus again (coolish, but nice weather), did online church (meh), got on the elliptical, had lunch, read some, called all the grandmothers, including a zoom with the in-law fam, then APM cooked for the missus, had a g&t on the deck, ate, lil'APM bought some ice cream for dessert, ate that, PBS with the missus, asleep by 10:15.

10/10 and that has been hard to achieve during the COVID sh*t.

May 11, 2020, 9:49 AM

I have never used a smoker before. So I asked my wife to buy me a pork shoulder, turkey breast or a whole chicken for the maiden voyage.

She bought a whole turkey.

Anywho, I prepped Friday morning, threw the turkey on around 11AM, fought the swirling wind a bit and found maintaining a constant temp in those conditions was tough. Turkey finished around 5PM (13lb bird.)Let it rest for about 40 minutes and DEER LOWERED. That was some tasty turkey. It was much more moist that I thought it would be, and dat smokey flavor, doe.

Saturday I exercised a bit, finished Mother's Day shopping

Sunday, good Mother's Day, put a few miles on the bike and lounged.

Friday night - had a few drinks while flipping channels and getting bored. Went to bed early.

Saturday - Dad brought oldest son up for the weekend, and I dropped him off at tkshe's house. Dad and I drove to Statesville, NC to pick up a patio set that some extended family (like, my 5th cousin or something) had offered after their mother passed a few weeks ago. Got Randy's BBQ which was decent, and a bag of house pork rinds that were great. Got home and just relaxed the rest of the evening.

Sunday - went to 2 different grocery stores to get the food for tkshe's lunch. I went over to her house, and our son helped to cook salmon, basmati rice, and roasted some asparagus. Not bad, and i don't even like salmon. Kids gave her the gifts, while I did the dishes.

Took my oldest back to my parents for the next two weeks, had supper with mom and dad, and came home.
