USCjr fans would rather win the Clemson game than any conference game...
How small minded can you be?
I'd rather beat Florida State and eventually win the ACC ANY day than beating our little brother. They don't hang banners for beating your little brother. They have an even better reason to rather win any conference game by them playing in the $EC. But I guess they can't seem to figure that out because their spending too much time buying t shirts with "5" on it and putting $EC stickers on the back of their pickups.
Conference Championship > Palmetto Bowl
what a fan base.

Spurrier knows he has NO shot at getting a SEC Title, so he shifts his focus on Clemson. He has done it ever since his first victory against us as Chickenlina's coach. He would do this by game 5. Now he is doing it extra early. Rude awakening coming Jack Daniels Man... Rude awakening coming.

your point was made over and over by misguided coot fans... it makes me sick to my stomach to see how the tables are turned and our fans are making arguments like they used to....
all i ever heard was "i'd rather win games in our conference than worry about beatng Clemson..." among other excuses.
This needs to change back to normal. our fans are morphing as we speak.

It's funny right before the five year run, I have a buddy who is a Coot fan who pulls for both of us and had all but given up on them and was an inch from being a full Tiger fan (not sure how that can be, I will never pull for anything they do) , I want those days back and to be in the national title hunt!

I'm not being submissive by saying that I'd rather win the ACC than win against a program that we are clearly the big brother in. I'm saying that there is a bigger picture, that they have yet to frame.

days back, or live in the now...all day I'd choose the Dabo era. Clemson football has never been so relevant, well since the 80s...
It'd really sting if we didn't do well nationally and were getting beat consistently by the lamecocks...but luckily, I'm all for the national attention. It seems to be paying off in recruiting as well!

because it's pretty much all they've got.
Under Spurrier's watch; no BCS Bowl appearances, no conference championships, and no bowl wins vs. higher ranked opponents.
What else are they going to flap their beaks about?

It's funny to hear us talk about their lack of trophies the last 5 years. For one, it makes us feel better because they've kicked our fannies. Second, I know, you know, every single college Fb fan alive knows that it is infinitely harder for them to get to a BCS game than us. You're saying what a coot would say pre-2008. Stop it. Losing to them in Double digits 5 yrs in a row matters. Being ranked lower than them at the end of the year matters. This is the best 4 year run in Clemson's history and we still have been dominated by them. There is nothing we can say unless we win. Period.

Makes you realize all their rhetoric about the SEC being the best and what not, is all a bunch of BS.

But I'd rather beat the gamecocks than any other single game on our schedule.
Now, of course I'd take 11-1 over 1-11, but beating USC is a higher priority (to me) than any single other game.

I said any single game.
There are always what-ifs and trade-offs, and hypotheticals, and my opinion may change based on those.
However, as a basis, yes, I want to win the USC game more than any other game on our schedule.

SEC East is weak again? Three likely top 15 teams preseason is weak? I'll have what you're having.
Not to mention two additional teams that pull top 10 recruiting classes EVERY year.

Exactly. It's all relative

If we won the SEC but lost to Clemson our fans would be saying the Clemson game didn't matter. Clemson fans would be claiming and SEC championship.
Moral victories are what sports fans live on.
It's amazing to me how anyone truly believes his or her fanbase is superior to another fanbase. Especially two fanbases made up in such a small state like South Carolina.

You cannot really separate the two ... eventually a coach
Apr 30, 2014, 2:56 PM
|
|
will have to do both.
From historical evidence a coach can last longer winning the "state championship" than he can winning the conference crown, but eventually lack of success on either front will be his undoing.
A coach must win a reasonable number of times against his main rival to keep his job no matter what he's doing otherwise.

Blast from the historic past! Legendary Coach Frank Howard (1931-1969 coaching football at Clemson) once said, speaking of the Clemson/South Carolina game, "If you win, you've had a good season. If you lose, no matter what you've done, you've had a bad year."

Right, or they could be spending time and money watching countdown clocks!
