Don't put it on the day before if your rub has salt in it

It'll dry it out. I'm lazy so I just use "Butt Rub" I found at Sam's. Probably not the greatest, but my bbq is always good.

Agree about the salt. Add some an hour before cooking.

Otherwise, just make something up using any mix of these:

Garlic powder
Onion Powder
Black Pepper
White Pepper
Cayenne Pepper
Paprika
Chili Powder
Cumin
Oregano
Brown sugar
Coriander
Mustard powder
Or pretty much anything else on your spice rack, depending on your taste

You'll be fine.

It’s like brining but dry

Gives a chewy bark that softens up when you wrap and rest before pulling it.

Paprika
Garlic powder
onion powder
salt
pepper
cayenne pepper powder
brown sugar

brush yellow mustard on pork and then put rub on generously

I do it right before I throw it on the smoker. If you do it early I've found that you won't get the nice bark on the meat.

brown sugar, and equal parts pepper, garlic salt, paprika and cayenne, and then add a touch of mustard seed and some Himalayan pink sea salt. Anything salty shouldn't be put on the day before. I usually do about 3-4 hours before.

Brown Sugar, Paprika, Salt, and Pepper. These will be your heaviest used seasonings in my opinion. I also add small parts of onion powder, garlic powder, and dry mustard.
