Poor decision to leave Francois in at that stage of game?

Sep 3, 2017, 12:40 PM

Down 24-7 with ~5 minutes to play with the beating Francois had already taken by the 'Bama D, it seems like the FSU coaches should have already waived the white flag and put in the 2nd team QB by that point. Especially given the dropoff in QB talent from Francois.

Sometimes you gotta admit defeat and live to fight another day. I'd be a little miffed at the coaching staff if I am a FSU fan right now. This game doesn't matter so much in the grand scheme of trying to get to the 4 game playoff and winning the conference given the entire conference schedule is still ahead.

I'd like to think the Clemson coaches would have taken Bryant out had Clemson been in that situation, but at least Clemson has QB depth, unlike FSU.

Huh

I would be miffed at the coaches if they gave up like you

are suggesting, 5 minutes is plenty of time to score 2 touchdowns and attempt an onside kick. Many games have been won like this in recent memory.

Not likely against 'Bama. Just sayin - why risk your 1st team QB against an NFL-caliber defense when you're down by 17 with 5 to go? Especially given no QB depth?

Because you don't send a signal to your team that its okay to quit....ever.

Eh..

I wouldn't blame the coaches for leaving him in. The games was only a 17 point difference and FSU has the talent make the impossible happen (look at Ole Miss nearly coming back last year to beat Bama in 3 minutes). It wasn't as if it was completly out of hand. Crazy things can happen with 6 minutes to go. I wouldn't go calling for heads on this. It was an injury that just happened coincidently. It's football.

I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.***

I know I would have beeen pissed if Dabo pulled DW if we were in the same position. This is football and 5 minutes is a lot of time, who knows what could happen.

I think you view it as quality reps at that point.

Regardless to score he was at least getting to practice playing a stellar defense. This could've helped him later in the year. No one can predict an injury like that.

on defense and run FULL SPEED unblocked, untouched, unchipped to run the QB down from behind out of the pocket.

Just football

of course not

Sep 3, 2017, 5:54 PM

what type of message does it send to the team that you are giving up in the 1st game the season?

The object is to win the war. It was a lost battle by that point in the game. Why risk your rattled, beaten-up franchise QB late in game one in a lost cause? FSU is screwed without Francois. Though you will never hear him admit it, you know Jimbo has to be second guessing his decision to keep playing Francois when the game was clearly over.
