Speaking of Herman McGee, when a student back in the early

May 6, 2016, 10:58 AM

'70's, I sprained my knee playing intramural basketball. After about a week, I thought I could play again if I could get someone to tape it. I went to the training room, which back then was just a part of Fike, and the first person I saw was Mr. McGee. I explained what happened and asked if maybe someone would tape my knee. Herman said, "Sure, come on in. I'll fix you up." I had never seen anyone tape a knee like he could. And just as nice a guy as you would ever want to meet.

I had a very similar experience with Mr McGee in the early 60's. I badly sprained an ankle running to class one rainy morning and barely made it to the classroom. After class I went to the infirmary for assistance and they were very busy so Herman and one of his 'boys' taped my ankle, gave me a bag of ice and sent me back to my room healed! What an amazing job from a truly amazing man. Without question he needs to be honored in a big way by Clemson University LETS GET IT DONE

Remember as a young boy attending games in late 50s, early 60s always had to find Coach Howard and Herman on the sidelines. He was just a fixture at Clemson.
