elected to take knee yesterday. I just cannot understand it. The idiot that started this was protesting against our country. Somehow, it has been turned around to be a symbol of BLM.
Firstly, ALL matters matter!
Secondly, the National Anthem is for respect the country we live in.
I logged into TigerNet early yesterday and read where Deshawn was doing well. I was so tempted to cut the tv on but refrained. I will not watch an NFL game this year.

I find it very telling that former players protesting for racial equality are seen by some as being un-american. let that sink in for a bit.

I, for one, respect their right to protest whatever they want but the fact remains that I bought a ticket to see a football game and not a protest. There count may be down but guarantee that the merchandise sales, ticket sales in the future, and attendance as well as TV revenues will all be down art some point. Too bad, but that is the way it will be. Plenty of TV shows, newspaper ads, church's other than their own, etc.etc to speak at. Just my opinion but is based on a pretty decent knowledge base

Ask those who have lost loved ones in defense of that flag. IMO what these athletes are doing more to divide this great country than they are helping their cause.
It's sad when it seems like the French have a greater respect for our flag and those who died for freedom than many US citizens do.

What I stated was accurate. The players who have previously protested have specifically came out and stated they have nothing against veterans and that the protest has nothing to do with the military. What degree did you get where you can't comprehend a nuance?

Whose cause? The players? The anthem only serves as the platform where they can get a dialogue started about what they are protesting. If they did hour long specials about their cause you wouldn’t watch it so the fact that you are having a slightest discussion about it now shows that how they are doing it is correct way

The national anthem has nothing to do with this racist ######## that all this idiots are "supposedly" protesting. Crapperdick was a sucky qb looking for a way to make a name for himself. He doesn't give a #### about equality or race. He wants to say look at me. Look what I am doing. I'm sick of it. If you don't like the way you are being treated or certain groups are being treated then by all means feel free to go somewhere that better caters to your needs. Suck it up and quit being little whiny b i t ch e s if you CHOOSE to stay in this terrible country that offers you no opportunity whatsoever. Cry me a ####### river. You clowns are pathetic.

If one sentence you say Kapernick isnt really protesting he’s just being an attention #####
In the next sentence you say if you don’t like the way you’re being treated in his country, then move and stop whining.
Yea , you contradicted yourself for one. For two, Your wrong , and showed you are indeed a racist. Have a great day bud

But man is Trump a ####### that is embarrassing. My dog makes better decisions when a squirrel runs across a busy road. I'm pretty confident at this point my dog would look both ways and Trump would be getting scraped from the pavement.

She raised money for a Foundation(which unlike Trump's closed fake Foundation/personal slush fund, actually helped people) from multiple foreign sources. Whoopie! And if anyone wants to even vaguely suggest Saudi Arabia could possibly have anywhere near the influence on the Clintons that it had in Bush II's terms, they know nothing of Washington DC during 2001-2009. And how do we know what influences Trump had from contributors and business interests? The Liar has yet to release his promised tax returns! But we do know that he was supported by Vladmir Putin and: "SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea has backed presumptive U.S. Republican nominee Donald Trump, with a propaganda website praising him as “a prescient presidential candidate” who can liberate Americans living under daily fear of nuclear attack by the North.
A column carried on Tuesday by DPRK Today, one of the reclusive and dynastic state’s mouthpieces, described Trump as a “wise politician” and the right choice for U.S. voters in the Nov. 8 U.S. presidential election. It described his most likely Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, as “thick-headed Hillary” over her proposal to apply the Iran model of wide sanctions to resolve the nuclear weapons issue on the Korean peninsula."(May 31, 2016) KIM JONG-UN!

account and power"????? PROVE IT! "A billionaire crazy man that loves his country" Again, Trump, a man who has gone bankrupt multiple times, leaving partners, suppliers, and workers in the lurch, doesn't pay taxes, and has his personal products manufactured in China and Mexico instead of by AMERICAN WORKERS, doesn't love money??? Heck, he makes money off renting golf carts to the Secret Service to follow him around playing golf at his golf courses! I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this foolishness! The shyster has even lied to the American people about releasing his tax returns! NO SALE!!

I'm gonna try and keep this short and sweet because this is a forum for Clemson Tigers football.
First of all, saying these players who are taking a knee during the national anthem are disrespecting our troops, is like saying Rosa Parks was protesting public transportation. If you're only able to see this as a slight towards military men and women who died serving this country, then it just means you're narrowminded.
Second, and I'm definitely just guessing on this one, something tells me you're not a black man. I'm not either. So I cannot directly speak about whether or not these complaints from black people are valid or not based on first-hand experience. But what I can tell you is that we have no right to discredit the things that they say just because we don't understand. And I am BY NO MEANS a fan of Colin Kaepernick But you acting like the point of this protest was to disrespect our country means you just aren't paying attention.
I understand that Clemson is in South Carolina which is smack dab in the heart of Trump country. But the majority of our football roster and basically all football rosters across the country are made up of black men. So you don't get to say to them "you better make sure you continue to play well and never let me hear your opinion on anything relating to the country you live in". They have that right and that's what separates us Korea. And the troops who died, died for their right to do so
Most people use sports as a way to distance themselves from politics and I count myself amongst one of those people. But Donald Trump promptly asserted himself into the sports world by saying the things he said. If someone told you to sit down and shut up and know your place, well let's just say you might not be inclined to do so.

Cody, take a seat and listen for a minute. I'll make this short and sweet. Yesterday had ZERO to do with "oppression", "police brutality" or any other amount of BS topics you THINK it might have been about. This was simply a "show of unity" against President Trump. Not once did he say "If he kneel's fire them". I'll help out people that are being juked by the left wingers again. President Trump said in an off the cuff way "WOULDNT IT BE NICE IF...........". Thin skin is definitely a trait of the left. I too have sworn off the NFL until heads are pulled out of butts. Should Trump have even mentioned? Probably not. But for the same reasons every one else can speak their mind freely, he is also allowed. Rant over, fire away. Once again, he has nothing to do with anything except President Trump's comment in his speech. That is it.

If you think the words "WOULDN'T IT BE NICE IF" are in anyway defusing then your being willfully naïve. As men (which I'm assuming you are) we are driven by ego. If you tell me I'm a S O B For standing up against an injustice that I see prevalent in the world, My guttural reaction is To throw it right in your face by doing what you explicitly told me not to do because you are invalidating my opinion and agency.
You also don't have any qualifications or authority necessary to tell me or anyone else why those football players were taking a knee. You don't have to like it and I'm sure nothing I type in response to you will change your mind. It's so easy to call people on the left "thin skined" but you all are the ones who are DEEPLY upset about people exercising their first amendment right.
ALL the blame on this goes to Donald Trump for choosing to pour gasoline on every single fire he sets his site on.

You do understand these NFL players are at work, right? They are forced to adhere to other rules during work. Like most companies, you go to work. If you have plans to do other things, they will show you the door. You are free do what you want on your time, not the company time.

This isn't about injustice. Most of these football players don't even know why the hell they are kneeling. They just know they will go back home to their gated community and 5 million dollar house not having to worry about it. Not buying this social injustice ########. They all are craving attention. It is what it is.

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a ##### off the field right now, out, he’s fired!’ You know, some owner is going to do that. He’s gonna say, ‘That guy disrespects our flag, he’s fired.’ And that owner, they don’t know it. They don’t know it. They’re friends of mine, many of them. They don’t know it. They’ll be the most popular person, for a week. They’ll be the most popular person in the country."

I've stopped watching the NFL.
I prefer my sports and politics to be mutually exclusive. I hope the NFL implodes over this and the owners and players enjoy the ride, they deserve it.

Yep. You are exactly right. If they had properly addressed this when it was only Kapernick, it could have been handled very easily. Instead the owners and Goodell kicked the can down the road until we have what we have. This is not a protest of police brutality. If Hillary had won, you would have never seen this. This is how liberals behave. You can play it any way you want, but liberals will be the down fall of this country and we are getting there fast. Eight years of Obama have destroyed this great nation.

Exactly ...the trumpster did not like the spineless, unpatriotic approach taken by the league and the owners. So, he blows the lid off of this powder keg and creates a shat storm for the NFL!,!, believe what you wish, but the NFL will catch more blowback than they ever wanted, while the silent majority will be all up in the trump camp on this one. Trump 2020 is a shoe in ...accept it CL , and thank your oppressed millionaire thugs for making if happen

Unlike you and all these other idiots President Trump puts this country first. Its not about you or your race or what little group you belong to. Trump is not dividing this country its citizens are taking care of that on their own.

falls into your far right stereotyping. I voted for Sanders in the primary and Jill Stein in the general. I don't worship a political party like you. And try another comeback than always bringing up the Clintons. They're done with, so you can't use them as an excuse anymore

Seriously, nobody cares what these guys believe in or don't believe in. Free country, and opinions are like the hole that people defecate from, everybody has one.
If I cared what they thought I'd ask them, but I don't. Shut up and entertain me, that's what you're paid to do. They didn't need to politicize it, and now that they did they'll have to deal with the consequences.
The NFL forgot the cardinal rule: Politics and religion....the two things you only discuss with family....unless you're not very smart.

If you found out these players were doing it on their own time, people who think like you would still protest the NFL because the players are "anti-America". Donald Trump deserves ALL the blame for this. If I come at you aggressively and push you then I'm the stupid one for thinking you wouldn't push me back or retaliate in some other way.
Where I come from there's a saying. Don't start nothing won't be nothing. Love him or hate him this was never an issue under Barack Obama because he did what you wanted him to. He left politics and sports as separate things.

I disagree.
But, you did just make several incorrect assumptions about me. Not surprising, because you don't know me from Adam.
Obama politicized this country in a way that was very dangerous and divisive and he did lots of damage. The media continues to whip up the "masses", and the "masses they're whipping up are buying it hook-line-and sinker (and these folks are also making a ton of false assumptions of their own).
No matter, our country is in trouble and is a train-wreck waiting to happen. You can't fix stupid.

There is no way you can compare Obama to Trump. The fact of the matter is, Donald Trump supporters see that buffoon as infallible and they have been duped by a city slicker snake oil salesman into believing he actually cares at what affects you in your day-to-day life.
Colin started the protest but in actuality, very few followed suit after he did. Most all the football teams stood for the singing of the national anthem. Then along comes Donald making everything worse as is the only thing he knows how to do.
The only person who deserves the blunt of the ire is trump.

95% of Clemson players support Kaepernick. I know for a fact all the black ones do. Which makes what 90%.

one thing for sure, a large chunk of this country has lost the ability to think for themselves, they just mindlessly parrot what they read and hear in the media with little thought as what they are saying. it is a very sad time for this country.

As a double honorably diaharged Veteran I can say it doesn't bother me. Some may question but I see it as that is why I served. I watched the houston game yesterday and I saw players standing and others kneeling with their heads bowed. If there are things in our country that bother you it is your right (that I fought for) to protest. It is what makes the USA the best country in the world. No one is spitting or burning a flag. In reality they are protesting the president more than the country. Rather than rant about the issue I say Pray about the issue. God bless America!

Well...in Grady Jarrett's case, I understand he was very troubled by Trump's description of kneelers as "son of a #######". Jarrett may have motivations on multiple levels, but he did cite that derogatory term as being an issue for him. In that regard, he said his mother was a "jewel".
Many years ago, I had an older co-worker tell me that being called a son of a ##### was one of the worst things that could be said about you. Perhaps Grady has that same perspective.
I voted for Trump, but his word choices (and his overall communication style) are a big turn-off for me.

Colin Kapernick original statement.
Colin Kaepernick: "People don’t realize what’s really going on in this country. There are a lot things that are going on that are unjust. People aren’t being held accountable for. And that’s something that needs to change. That’s something that this country stands for freedom, liberty and justice for all. And it’s not happening for all right now."
This protest was never about the flag or disrespecting veterans/military. At that time he kneeled there was a few incidents where unarmed Americans lost their life from police brutality. On top of the killings at that time, there was a case of a cop that had got actquitted from a charge many people thought should stick, but once again walks freely. Time after time we hear those kind of stories and some people choose to acknowledge it and know it's real or you can choose to ignore it and turn your back to the truth.
He wants to bring awareness to that, the players that kneel want to bring awareness to that! It literally has nothing to do with the flag or disrespect to our Vets. That notion came from the media and people who don't want to face the truth about police brutality, unjustices in America and the people who are not being held accountable. We've seen the video of Michael Bennett getting drugged down by a cop and having a gun put to his head. He was kneeling last year, fast forward a whole year and he's face down with a gun to his head living the very thing he's protesting against!!! It doesn't get more clear as day than that but guess what? I'm I'm the the the people still want to ignore it.
If you're really for ALL LIVES MATTER you shouldn't have a problem with these players kneeling. There are millions of veterans who respect these players being FREE and expressing their first amendment right! They probably don't agree with it but they sure do respect it. This protest has turned to a racial thing almost and don't give me that bull crap about white players are kneeling too. Yes, there are some white players kneeling as well because they acknowledge the problem, they understand what's the kneeling and protest is all about. The viral picture of the 97-year old veteran kneeling gets it! the veterans that respect the players kneeling, gets it! They see the bigger picture and are not stuck looking at the TV with hate filled glasses. I'm not gonna be political correct here (that's the new thing now right? Our president does it and people love it) but You can't tell me hate and racism isn't apart of the reason SOME folks, not all but SOME folks don't agree with players kneeling. You can be a white player kneeling too, they will still hate you! The Detroit restaurant owner who called two African Americans the N word for not kneeling, that's an example of hate and racism. There's plenty more things being said that we'll never hear from a lot of people.
People sure do have a lot of passion and anger for these players because of their kneeling, but where is that same anger and passion for those unjustified killings? Where's your passion for the kid that almost got hung to death in New Hampshire? That's what people want to see. Passion for EVERYONE, for ALL LIVES. I promise you this will be a better place.
Lastly, another thing that got this thing riled up is Trump statements. He called the violent Charlottesville protesters "very fine people" but calls the mothers of the players peacefully protesting a b###h ? I just don't get it. How can he say something like that? You call and I'm still being politically uncorrect here, you call white supremacists "fine people" you don't call for their jobs. You call a black NFL player a SOB and calls for their job... That's a problem right there and it shouldn't come from someone running this country.
So for you and others that gave you a thumbs up for being disappointed in our former players for living and being FREE! then that's where you stand on this issue and to me makes you look un American and not for ALL people.

This is the best post I’ve read on the subject. Thank you.
Trump is certainly the problem here. It’s amazing to me that many of the people complaining about Kap voted for Trump, who time and time again points out the problems in America and how he wants to make it “great again”, these people cheered and cheered.
Yet when Colin Kappernick takes a knee and says there’s a clear problem in America facing black people and he’s standing up against it, these same people want him fired.
How about respect someone’s right to peacefully protest?

There is part of the problem, they are making it a black issue when the numbers show twice as many white people are killed by cops. If they made it about all people killed by cops it may go over better. It may not but it would have a better chance than saying the black people killed are more important than the white people. Also a bigger number that is being over looked is 90% of black men killed are killed by other black men. Why is that not a bigger issue? It's because black on black crime doesn't get clicks. The same reason that meth head shot up the black church and it was all over the news but the black guy shoots up a white church and it's on page 14. The way everything gets reported is what's causing the disconnect. Blacks killed by whites gets clicks.

Have you read all the verses of the national anthem? We sing only a few. There are verses that specifically speech about slavery. It is a right for people to protest in a peaceful manner. The flag and what it represents “ OUR country “ gives the mindset of all people to feel they belong under one nation and it is their right to speak out. Recognizing the military w respect has nothing to do w taking a knee or disrespecting the country or flag. They are not burning cars, smashing store fronts or stealing. Men are taking a knee to acknowledge there needs to be change amongst the future. To be short minded is just as wrong as not ackowledging another mans rights.

I would think seeing guys who graduated from Clemson whom we all have high opinions of make a stand like this would make more people stop and consider what their viewpoints actually are. Instead, people continue to ignore their viewpoints and instead want to make it about disrespect, even though that's never been their intentions.
It's quite sad that following the incident last month in Virginia our president came out and stated that he supported the rights of neo nazis and kkk members to protest. I mean, those are groups that included two different sides in which our country has literally fought wars against, and the president supported their rights to protest. Heck, I also saw many others saying they had the right to free speech following that. Yet, let some guys peacefully protest by kneeling during the anthem, and the president not only doesn't support it, but calls for them to be fired, and many people support him in those statements.
Honestly, since this all started, I've rolled my eyes each time a player was shown kneeling down, but not because the act made me angry. I rolled my eyes because I knew I'd have to hear and read more people complaining about it. The people saying they are disappointed, and saying they refuse to watch the NFL because of it. That's certainly your right, but you're very easily offended if you're letting something like that impact your life in such ways.

Players are very divisive....quite a few have turned off NFL

Never really had a huge interest vs college ball but I've turned off what I used to watch. Right now I'm just watching Watson. If Houston wants to play politics I'll probably just read the highlights on Tigernet.

You know Watson kneeled yesterday right? I'll also bet just about anything that you'll see college players doing it this coming weekend.

He isn’t protesting our country, he’s protesting police brutality and systematic racial oppression.
Note that many veterans support Kaepernick.
How you feel about the protest says everything about you.
You can’t stand it? It’s not even the worse thing in the world, it’s peaceful protest.
Taking a knee might even be showing more honor than covering your heart .
Your showing your racism.

Deshaun Watson would be disappointed in this racist post.
“I just can’t understand it” yea bud, cause you never try to. You’re a racist deep down. And by racist I don’t mean you hate blacks.
By racist I mean you uphold the systematic oppression and white supremacy that has always been.
Also called a white supremacist

Sorry, but who are you talking to? I can tell you that many veterans are vehemently opposed to this, while others are not keen on it, but believe it is within their rights, while a few are suppoetive. As for me, it is absolutely their right to do so. I don't like it, but if they do believe there is a problem or issue, there is a lot of ways they can take a stand against these issues without cheapening a moment that for generations, many Americans, Black, White, or otherwise have honored. Wanna put some real skin in the game? Take a real stance and sit out a game in protest. That would show some dedication.

Or just take a knee and continue to bring light to the subject, and continue to #### the thin skinned off

Try not being a white supremacist, racist, and maybe you’ll understand it.

I'm going to take a unique way to approach this topic

With facts. A couple of things you should know about me before I start. I am a moderate political, conservative fiscal and governmental individual who aligns most closely with the Libertarian Party. I am a white man, but my wife is black, so I have seen both sides of this argument, in that I have been white not witnessing these inequalities because people who are racial bigots hide it from large crowds, but I've also been with my wife when someone has said something cutting because we were in a small group. I was legitimately shocked and never in my lifetime would I have ever thought this would happen in our country. Now, for the facts:
First, Kaepernick has been protesting inequalities from the beginning. Here are the original transcripts: http://www.espn.com/blog/san-francisco-49ers/post/_/id/18957/transcript-of-colin-kaepernicks-comments-about-sitting-during-national-anthem
Second, after initially sitting, Kaepernick went to a military person to ask about how to protest without disrespecting the flag or military. The story has actually been verified. http://www.snopes.com/veteran-kaepernick-take-a-knee-anthem/
Third, Kaepernick donated 1,000,000 to the military. https://www.google.com/amp/amp.timeinc.net/si/nfl/2016/09/02/49ers-colin-kaepernick-donate-salary-1-million-anthem-protest%3Fsource=###

Respectfully, short-sighted and narrow-minded on your part. I hope some day you and others here see the error of your ways.
