Impressive resume

I like the fact that he has some MLB scouting experience, also.

What I was hearing initially was that Heath was definitely coming, IF the money was there. Now, it's sounding like he might stay at the C of C if he is offered the head coach job. This could go either way.

I don't see hom getting that HC job , but I've been wrong before . I think he joins Lee at Czlemson and they tear it up on the recruiting trail at a major university that just happens to have a tremendous baseball background .

I hope you're right. But, I would think that Heath would have a good shot at the job.

Please excuse my ignorance but I've noticed on more than one occasion some of the "Pitching Coaches" on these teams were never pitchers. I don't think Pep was, and this Heath guy was a catcher and outfielder. Not taking anything from them but do the pitching coaches develop the pitchers or do they manage them? Are these pitchers working with legit pitching coaches on their own time? If your son was an aspiring pitcher you'd seek a former pitcher to teach/coach them, right?

I want to believe that this guy develops pitchers instead of just relying on raw talent.

Don't forget to add Sully to the list of pitching coaches who were not pitchers.

Most college pitching coaches are former pitchers. However, a bright guy can educate himself if he wants to do the work. Most college pitching coaches are very hands on. They do a lot of actual coaching. Many pro guys will tell you they got a lot more actual coaching in college than they did in the pros. I know that some Clemson hitters do go back to their old hitting instructors for work. Haven't heard that about any of the pitchers, but it could certainly happen in the off season.

I just remembered that former Clemson backup catcher Adam Ward is the pitching coach at Charleston Southern. This is more common in college ball than pro ball. The only non-pitcher that I can think of that coached pitchers in MLB is Dave Duncan.

If the guy is smart enough and willing to work hard enough, it's definitely doable.

Sully wasn't a pitcher either.

He was a catcher and he's done a great job with pitchers. Some of the best pitching coaches were catchers.

I could easily see former catchers making good pitching coaches. I guess it's really no different than having a former LB coaching DBs or WRs on a football team. Great insight on this thread.

Wouldn't a good catcher be a good pitching coach?
