6 game CFP format?

Take the power 5 conference champs plus the top-rated non-champ. Have the lower-ranked 4 of 6 play in to the current 4-team playoff (3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5).

Let mid-major guys have their own championship.

This. Why any Clemson fan would want to "fix" a system that has allowed Clemson three straight playoff appearances just blows my mind.

THIS ****
Also, 6 makes no sense. Why not 11.5, the best two from each power 5, best non-power 5 and uscjr (same as a bye but the other team can sell tickets). If, and big if, you want to expand it has to be to 8.
Leave it at 4.

Clemson. And if things were different and we had lost to Auburn and Syracuse but won the ACC...and a 1-loss team got in ahead of us that didn't win their conference, well that's on Clemson. Beat Syracuse and it doesn't matter. Just like Ohio State, don't get your bhole stomped by Iowa and you're in. This system is solid, if a P5 team (or Notre Dame) wins em all, they're in. Lose one game and you're not out of it, but you're not a lock to get in. Lose 2 games and you're out.
Honestly, the only team that has a legitimate beef this year is UCF. I wonder if they would have gotten in had their game against GT not been cancelled and they had won.

The 4 team playoff has worked every year. The best two teams have ended up in the championship game with little doubt. Even when OSU won the first as a 4 seed, they dominated both games.
None of the semi-finals have been close.
The last championship games have been two of the best played games you'll ever watch.
No matter the number of games, someone is always going to have a beef that they were left out.
If it ain't broke.

The only close semifinal was a 7 point win by Ohio St over Bama in the first year of the playoff (2014). Every other semifinal was won by 17 points or more.
No need to add more teams to the mix to get blown out. It would also water down the regular season if you could lose 4+ games and still get in by just winning your conference championship.

BCS almost always worked too
Dec 13, 2017, 9:45 AM

The goal of the BCS was to get #1 and #2 to play. Almost every year, there was a large gap in points-system used separating #2 from #3.
The fact that the semi-finals have been lopsided so far is somewhat indicative of this: #1 and #2 are usually pretty close to each other and "no-question", with a large gap down to #3, with arguments starting for 3, 4, 5...
Adding 3 & 4, or 5, 6 (and maybe 7, 8) just makes it all easier for multi-loss teams and the SEC to place multiple schools in the playoffs. We certainly would have had 3 SEC schools, probably 2 B1G schools, and maybe just maybe 2 ACC schools this year.
Why? Just to set up potential for Georgia, Alabama, and Auburn, again? Clemson and Miami again? Wisconsin and OSU, again?

Every year 4 teams get in and every year at least one of those teams gets embarrassed on national TV and proves that they didn't deserve to be in that top 4.
First it was FSU vs. Oregon, then Michigan State and Oklahoma in 2015, and then Ohio State in 2016, and Washington barely put up a fight in 2016 as well.
Why are we going to keep trying to add more teams when the best two teams have always met up in the end? Do we really want to add Ohio State, USC, Penn State, Auburn, Wisconsin, Miami, Washington, UCF, Stanford, etc.?

If it was 6, Georgia would have to play an extra game even though they have basically as good a claim to#1 as Clemson or Oklahoma--they'd be unfairly penalized. The move to 4 teams is to ensure the best team doesn't get left out. Number 5 or 6 is basically never going to be the actual best team, so no need to expand to include them.
