One thing i never understood about Basketball

Apr 17, 2020, 9:01 PM

is why the game has changed so little in the last 40 years, where as in football, offensive strategies constantly evolve and the defenses respond. I think Basketball needs to copy this and try out some different strategies.

One that I just invented is where you get 4 guys, all around 350 lbs and built like offensive linemen, to block for the point guard so he can get an open shot right in front of the hoop. I mean this would work every single time because nobody will know how to defend it. I could see us scoring in the nineties if we made it our base offensive.

I used the same strategy in Nintendo hockey and it drove all of my friends nuts.

I see one small flaw with that. How is said point guard going to cover the other 5 flying down the court? Agility...

Now, I'll debunk my own theory. Have 4 bigguns on the bench and sub every other basket...

all four big uglies will cover the guy in bounding the ball and they will keep getting 5 second calls and burn through all of their time outs.. Being that we will score every time, this will be our entire defense and only has to work a few times to win the game..

You’re revolutionary idea is something...

Brownlee will “stumble upon” in the year 2036.

And because of this “breakthrough,” Clemson will go 17-13.

CELEBRATE!!!

Until our leading scorer breaks both legs in practice and our entire bench transfers to Valparaiso cuz of better facilities.

That’s how the cookie crumbles!!!

You should contact Coach Brownell and let him know.

Apr 17, 2020, 9:25 PM

Emailing sruark@clemson.edu is the best way to get this revolutionary idea in front of him.

You, Tigerbalm1, could change the course of Clemson basketball history. Go for it! Don’t be a puss and allow someone else, such as Tigerbalm2, steal your idea!

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

The game has changed dramatically

Apr 17, 2020, 10:04 PM

Palming the ball is very common. Taking several steps when going to the basket is common. Putting hands all over another is common.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

That’s ... well ... that’s ..,,

So you have only one guy scoring,no fast breaks,no slam dunks,no shot clock,no last second strategy,no having to foul a player who is a lousy shooter in hopes he misses,no need for reserve players because there would be no fouls,no scrambling for lose balls so need for the possession arrow really no need for officials, and so on.
Oh,and if you think we would score in the 90's,I hate to see what teams with 4 and 5 star recruit shooting guards would do against our team that has a hard time even finding a consistent shooting guard.

just imagine a roman phalanx slowly marching down the court with the point guard following up the rear. It would be unstoppable, I mean it is hard to block a shot when you are getting pancaked by a 350 pound goliath.

A simpler solution is to make the half-court line a 10-point shot. We could miss from there just as easily as we do from inside the 3-point line. Plus, our defense would be ready as they would never have to cross the half-court line. This was too easy to fix. Next time, bring a harder problem or a better solution.
